True duel VS Y pipe
Hi All,
Just purchased Megan Racing headers with resonated downpipes... New to the forum and on the market for a cat back exhaust.. Tried the search function with no success. From what I gather I have 2 style options.. 1) True duel.. Fast intentions, ARK, HKS, etc.. 2) Y pipe .. Amuse R1, Meistershaft, OE RS Megan etc.. From youtube vids Y pipe seems louder and more aggressive while true duel seems deeper and dronier. Pretty simple questions.. Which style makes more power? Or are they similar in gains? also I may consider a twin turbo kit if the tax man is good to me in the next year or 2, so which exhaust style would be better suited for turbo applications.. Thanks for your input Pilatus. |
great question!

If you could afford Amuse/HKS etc... even a Twin Turbo kit... why would you purchase Megan racing products? :ugh2:
Just sayin' :ughdance: |
Y pipes can drone as well. I believe any setup can drone, but having an X or H helps with the resonance. Most Y pipe based exhaust carry a higher pitch compared to dual's. This is my own observation though.

Dual is gonna be techincally for better flow. The Y-Pipe will more then likely be a bottle neck for back pressure once to a certain point. Most of us won't get there where it will effect us enough to notice but think of it this way. You have 2 seperate pipes, both 2.5" all the way through. Then you have a y-pipe that is 2 2.5" into a SINGLE 2.5" (so basically you went from 5" of flow to 2.5" of flow). One of the benefits of the Y-pipe i would think is a little more low end power due to more back pressure.

Thanks for the replies,
Cant afford the turbo kit yet or maybe ever...lol..thinking down the road. Trying not to buy anything twice.. Went with the megan headers in case of turbo kit install , wont take to much of a hit if I remove them. Didn't now they were low end stuff to be honest.. As for exhaust, just ordered Berk test pipes and will more then likely go with Ark cat back. Anyone interested in Megan resonated down pipes? lol ... They are still UPS enroute to my place , brand new in the box, haven't even seen them yet... Good price ... haha |

Lol... I just felt like giving you crap for nothing, happens a lot here :stirthepot: ... Good luck with your exhaust set up! |
I'm keeping my headers and stock cats; whats the best CBE for this situation? I'm assuming I want them most free flowing exhaust availible; maybe CNT?

Ultimately its your choice. ;) |
I wouldn't get hung up about "most free flowing" when you have stock cats in your system. It's like trying to run when your congested. Once you slap on an exhaust, that is the single greatest restriction point for air flow (except maybe air filters). Find out what sound you like and go from there.

The two dynos were almost 2 months apart though. It isn't exactly the right way to compare stock vs aftermarket.

Thanks for posting the graph even if you cant compare the gains. The CNT definetly is a well made exhaust and the price point is a plus. Its definetly not a flashy, bling-bling, loud, attention drawing exhaust system; but thats a + or - depending on perspective.
It's a rather quite exhaust compared to others; I'm not buying it for the sound but have you heard it w/ HFC's? WOW. I got mine in the mail. |
