CAI options

I've been searching threads and reading about CAIs. It seems like 8 out of 10 go with the Stillen Gen 3. I'm looking for other options. I am looking for a CAI that doesn't involve cutting or modifying the engine compartment and doesn't involve removing the bumper for filter maintenance. I know the Gen 3 produces the most Hps and Torque and understand why it's setup the way it is. I want a CAI that is easy to install and easy to clean. Don't mind if it doesn't put out as much as the Gen 3 does. What other options are there? I've seen the setups of different hoses and upgraded filters but is there other CAI systems that are recommended? Thanks for any help/input. This will probably be the mod that pops my Z's cherry since my birthday is coming up.

For CAI's we have:

Stillen Gen III - Cut front wall, remove bumper for filter mx
Takeda - Cut front wall (I believe), remove bumper for mx
Injen - Remove bumper for filter mx
AEM - Remove bumpter for filter mx
Stock - Don't have to touch anything.

If you wanna stick with a 'CAI' then that's your only option. Maybe do a MAF Tube and Drop Ins and be done with it. Less HP than a Stillen, but still a CAI.

If you're interested in a Short Ram Intake (From inside the Engine Bay):

Stillen Gen II
R2C
Takeda
JWT Pop Chargers
K&N Intakes
Weapon-R Racing - (If they ever release them... :ugh2: )

Any others I'm missing guys?

These won't net you as much HP as a CAI, but you will get a more pronounced intake sound, if you like that. With some higher gains than 'stock'. You don't have to remove the bumper or cut anything to install them either. And the price is usually about 1/2 that of the Stillen Gen III's.

Wow, I didn't realize all CAI required removal of front bumer for cleaning the filter. Thanks for the info and options.

Seems like the R2C's seem to have the best numbers out of the group of short rams.

Correction, they're made so that there won't be any cutting involved. You still have to remove the front bumper though and they're poking it on release. People who've ordered weeks ago still haven't gotten any word on shipment.

However we haven't been able to get any dyno gains on a 370Z though. Other Nissan models yes, but not a 370. And with how finicky this car is, I don't trust those other cars numbers. That being said, in terms of SRI's, they did make good numbers. So I dunno... Depends on the price difference from a set of Gen III's before I sign up for a set.

Completely ridiculous pricing and advertising. I don't really even see them as being worthwhile. Sure they look pretty, but I don't buy 'performance' minded parts for looks alone... :ugh2:

Thats what I thought, and didn't wanna say the wrong thing. Hence ( ).

That's another thing too... they announced, and took pre-orders... now people are waiting 2-3 Months for something that was on the edge of being released without so much as to a Reason why they aren't enroute. Not cool to me.

It's a shame I haven't dynoed my Z because I recently added the R2Cs.

All in due time!

anyone know how the Injen intakes compare performance wise to the stillen g3's?

SS_Firehawk 04-02-2012 03:08 PM

I picked up the AEM's on Amazon for $380 (dark silver). The shiny ones were $325. With those prices, I put my money on them, and worked great. I just posted a review on them if you want to read. http://www.the370z.com/intake-exhaus...ke-review.html

Puma0183 04-02-2012 03:14 PM

The G'3 are the best. the removal of the front bumper is nothing, and the cutting of the wall in minor. I did it and it only took me just over an hour and that was because i was making sure everything was done right. And I'm more that happy with them.

Slightly lower HP gains.

They are practically the same thing as the Injens in terms of placement. just with a 2nd Hydro-lock filter in the engine bay. (Expect hot air going in as well)
