Custom Single Side: Complete!

Over the Mardi Gras holiday I finally got around to fab'in up my custom single side exhaust. Thanks to my buddy Kris and Stells370 for helping! :tiphat:

What I used:

Buddy Club Pro Spec 3" universal muffler in brushed stainless
Vibrant 3" stainless quiet high flow resonator
Surewin stainless Y pipe (with ported and smoothed merge)
(3) Vibrant Stainless 2 bolt flanges w/ 2 gaskets

I bought 5ft of 3 inch stainless tubing, 1 90*, 1 45* and 1 *180. I used maybe 1 ft of the straight, the 45* and part of the 90*.

First I started by removing my Stillen CBE and putting it on the scale.

75lbs for this monster! It weighs a ton! :ugh2:

I don't have many pictures of the progress but my buddy took a few pics of us working.

The hardest part was making the bend around the sway bar and under brace... because of the 3 inch pipe, it does hang a little low.

My buddy and I TIG welding up the resonator...

Everything pretty much done, except for the hangers and final welding.

All finished!

It sounds amazing. It is loud... compared to the quiet Stillen. But, it weighs in at 35lbs said and done. Which saves about 40lbs from the Stillen... or even stock setups. I love the way it looks and couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

I'll have a sound clip coming soon.. I have to charge up the Go Pro!

Thanks for looking!

Sounds clip. Sorry for the shaky video.

I did this a while back when I first bought my 370z. I liked the way it sounded. It was really aggressive. The only downside was the extra whole in the bumper. I tried to find ways to fill it, but was unsuccessful. There is NO way to bumper tuck on the 370z like the 350z.

Red__Zed 02-20-2012 11:05 AM

Impressive work, and nice weight savings.

Was the weight the motivation for goin single?

Kingbaby 02-20-2012 11:06 AM

sound clips both of you!

Vibrant makes nice pieces!

TypeOne 02-20-2012 11:07 AM

Honestly, I don't mind the hole... it doesn't bother me as much as other people. Some of my buddies have serious issues with the empty spot. lol

Kingbaby 02-20-2012 11:09 AM

I don't know how the 370z bumper works is that a piece of it or part of the whole bumper?

Should be able to be filled quickly

Not really... I love the look of the single side, and I have always wanted to have one. I looked into buying some one, but the Amuse was really the only option, and I spent a fraction of the price making it myself.

What about picking up a rear diffuser like from Evo-R & then glassing over the hole in it? That way you're not messing with the factory part anyway.

TerribleONE 02-20-2012 11:39 AM

Looks good!

Omikron 02-20-2012 11:41 AM

I like it.

vividracing 02-20-2012 11:42 AM

Looks pretty nice. I'm not a big fan of the empty muffler spot on the other side, but it's not a total buzzkill for me.

Motordyne 02-20-2012 12:07 PM

Good job TypeOne!

Post sound clips. ;)

TonyBPD 02-20-2012 12:13 PM

I like it !

ccdominic 02-20-2012 01:17 PM

looks good! but probably more so because the empty slot is in the shadow in all the pics. i'm with the majority. if you could find a way to fill that slot, i think the z would look pretty dang good with a single exhaust.

corbin09 02-20-2012 01:21 PM

Here are some pics of mine from last year, looks like yours is much higher quality. I made mine for about 300 bucks.

The muffler choice was a big deal for me... I didn't want one that looked cheap. The buddy club pro spec muffler is made really well and has more of a rounded shape to it. Not so, "N1" style-ish.

Side note, my go pro videos were doo doo. I'll have a sound clip up soon.

looks good,diffrent from the usual

Nice work. Guess I'll be the odd man out and say a "V6" motor should have dual exhaust, but different strokes for different folks :tiphat:

98intrigue 02-20-2012 03:14 PM

Welcome to the single club. Enjoy it. I loved my single when I had it.

Why do you say this? The factory exhausts aren't even a true dual... As a matter of fact, most aftermarket exhausts aren't true dual.

A "V" motor has two manifolds yes? A driver and passenger. Seems to me you'd want two exit points for said exhaust manifolds.

The factory exhaust on my Challenger was dual, but had a weird cross over config. Also the HUGE mufflers killed that muscle car sound so I swapped it out for a more fitting Magnaflow.

"Most" stock exhausts are more concerned with noise abatement than they are sound quality. Therefore they run the stock exhaust through all kinds of mufflers, cross overs, boxes, etc. If Nissan had a true open setup and could do whatever they wanted, it'd be dual exhaust on this car.

I ordered a FI CBE which is also a true dual setup for my Z and the sound fits accordingly. I'll do some video of it once installed.

For now here's the Challenger.

No way I'd make it single. A bit too boy ricer and 4 cylinder motor for me, but that's just my personal opinion. Like I said, to each their own.

I enjoy seeing folks do any kind of mod and the OP did some work to make this fit. Props to him.

SPOHN 02-20-2012 06:39 PM

If it's loud, then I love it.

WAGAWAGA 02-20-2012 07:47 PM

hey atleast you dont have two holes missing.

Sweet.

Thanks for posting all that.

Do u have test pipes? I lost a lot of low end torque with my test pipes and aam straight pipes. Do you feel a loss in low end torque?

Kingbaby 02-20-2012 09:49 PM

Tune will get the response back!

Unique_Z 02-20-2012 10:14 PM

mmhmm:yum: sound clips!

I have Berk HFCs... I will admit that it does seem that is has a less torque down low, but it seems to pull much harder from mid-high end.

The weather is great today, sound clips will be posted!

KaienZ34 02-21-2012 10:15 AM

Even if you did lose some power you more than made up for it with the weight loss on that setup.

yay

zguynate 02-21-2012 11:35 PM

Im interested into seeing how this thing sounds. Im considering making a single exhaust myself. I had the AAM 350z exhaust and I absolutely loved the sound. Im hoping the 370z will have a similar sound if I try to "replicate" the 350z AAM exhaust.

Boost_lee 02-21-2012 11:50 PM

Good work man :D Cant wait to hear it

haitech 02-22-2012 02:10 AM

I'm loving it!

zguynate 03-05-2012 11:11 AM

So did you ever get a video on how this sounds?

MaDMaXX 03-05-2012 08:10 PM

Ack, that single center exhaust sounds like it's got a hole in the exhaust, that is not a good sound :(

And yes, where is the OP's vid? :)

Dallaz 03-05-2012 08:35 PM

I want to hear this thing as well. I like the look, nice job
