mellow exhaust options?

Whats a good semi quiet exhaust out there for the 370z? I'm picking mine up tomorrow and the first thing I'll be doing is probably a CBE. I dont want something thats too loud especially in the inside. Any suggestions from you seasoned Z owners out there? BTW I was thinking of going wiht the HKS Dual Hi Power Ti Exhaust System.

edub370 01-30-2012 10:34 PM

that will give you a nice tone without being overly obnoxious. im running CNT's system which is mostly moddled after the HKS/ARK's exhaust and it is very mellow when u want it to be, but can also really open up when u get in to it,

WAGAWAGA 01-30-2012 11:15 PM

Ark is coming up with their type 1 soon. Suppose to be a bit more mellow than the type 2 but i personally like the sound of the type 2. Btw the cnt exhaust does sound nice.

Mr. Q 01-30-2012 11:18 PM

An oem nismo exhaust is pretty quiet and can be had for pretty cheap used.

jaycz 01-31-2012 07:04 AM

I still have no regrets installing a Tanabe. Love it.

XwChriswX 01-31-2012 07:11 AM

Your best bet is going to be go to the Intake/Exhaust section, and read the stickies that are at the top for a reason. Then go through and pick out all of the <50 post 'Which is the best exhaust?' threads. This question has been asked numerous times. And now I'm fairly certain we have every single taste/look/wallet combination identified as which would be the best for them.

Or the Search feature is a great tool to help you figure out where to look instead.

check out the exhaust poll to see what everyone on here goes with

Red__Zed 01-31-2012 08:18 AM

Oem nismo and invidia Gemini are both pretty mild.

Cristobal09 01-31-2012 12:25 PM

I have the gemini, its definitley the quietest ive heard, next to the Nismo

Erik@RTTuning 01-31-2012 12:30 PM

I have yet to have a customer tell me that they didn't love their Invidia Gemini when they were shopping for something pretty subtle.

daisuke149 01-31-2012 12:32 PM

ARK Type 1 or Type 2. And then the TopSpeed Exhaust.

All have a really awesome mellow tone on it while driving, but also get really sweet when you get on it. But still not loud. And no drone in the cabin at all.

batman_4 01-31-2012 12:34 PM

Invidia or Tanabe.

Unique_Z 01-31-2012 12:51 PM

Definitely Invidia Gemini, i had it with Stillen Gen 3 intakes and once i hit 4k they roars up to life! but stays calm under 3k

2012z 01-31-2012 04:18 PM

I have Topspeed Pro 1....Great tone..no in cabin drone. great price...

roplusbee 01-31-2012 05:45 PM

I mean, wouldn't they all be somewhat mellow if you stay under 4k? I have the F.I. TDX w/ 18" resonators and it growls a bit, but mild until you give it some juice. Then it really wakes up!

Unless he is going with the AAM short tails, almost any of the exhaust choices will fit the bill. Especially, if he keeps it in the low RPM range...............

roplusbee 01-31-2012 05:51 PM

If my Stock exhaust was in TX, I would just give it to you, but it is still at my friends house in GA..............

svmtbman 01-31-2012 06:06 PM

Invidia, the sound is there when you want it (ie mash the gas). I love the way mine sounds, especially with the windows rolled down.

r1eater 02-01-2012 11:55 PM

thanks for all the responses. I just picked up the Z tuesday, traded in my 2008 STI in for it. I had a perrin exhaust with stage 1 tuning on it and it was pretty mellow sounding but you could definately hear it at idle. I cant seem to find the HKS any where so I guess I will look for the invidia or CNT, maybe someone has it in stock.

Srenity 02-02-2012 12:35 AM

Several of this sites sponsers carry the Invidia and offer great prices. Jomer with FB Nissan offered me a great price on the gemini a while back when I was thinking about getting that CBE. A quick look through the sponsers classifieds showed several vendors having sales on them.

daisuke149 02-02-2012 09:08 AM

honestly cus it fits right. My CNT is sitting in a storage room somewhere because it would rub against my sway bar. I was told that the exhaust has 5" of clearance between the flange and swaybar when i mentioned it to the vendor..... if it had 5" of clearance it would hit the other side of the sway bar or hang on the ground. /shrugs. Although it did sound good when it wasnt clanking around

edub370 02-02-2012 10:02 AM

thats where i will disagree. my cnt fit like a glove and sounds great. i know a lot of people have had good experience with that company

here's a pic of the fitment on my car:

http://www.the370z.com/members/edub3...t-back-car.jpg

as u can see, mine has over 1" between it and the sway bar. so daisuke, maybe it was dropped or twaeked in shipping or handling?

weld quality is amazing

also, shipping was LIGHTNING quick on this exhaust. not even a week after i order it was at my door

simply because it is HKS, they charge an arm and a leg for their products.

CNT is a 'copy' of the HKS, they didn't have to come up with how to make the exhaust efficient hence the cheaper price..

edub370 02-02-2012 11:35 AM

Exactly right. probably similar build quality, however with CNT you aren't paying for R&D and that lil HKS stamp

daisuke149 02-02-2012 11:39 AM

nah theres no way it was damanged during shipping. when mine was installed the driver side piping was going way to far off center. The entire way back compared to the right. The tips lined up fine so it wasn't an issue of that part just being bent. And im not the only one who had this issue either. They might have fixed it for later versions

also your car is lowered.

when you lower the car, it pulls the swaybar away from the flange which it hits.

My car isnt lowered.

edub370 02-02-2012 01:11 PM

yes but, my car was factory height for a while when i put the exhaust on

r1eater 02-03-2012 09:48 PM

how about the Fast intentions one? I just ran across that one.

AlphaSnacks 02-04-2012 12:20 AM

Invidia gets my vote.

Almost certain FBNissan has them the cheapest by far. That's where I got mine last year.

HKS uses real titanium for their tips which also adds to the cost aside from the HKS name. I ended up getting a great deal and really didn;t pay to much more then what berk and FI exhausts are going for these days. Its a great exhaust that has great fit and finish and sounds like a champ when paired with a good set of HFC's. Zero drone while cruising and great tone under acceleration. CNT is a good alturnitive but it doesn;t sound the same as an HKS. CNT is more muffled and smooth where as HKS is more of an aggresive and exotic note. Keep in mind that sound is a completely subjective thing. Ark has a similar system but their's sounds terrible with HFC's attached.

Great sounding exhaust but if you want something quite and without drone I'd look else where. You'll also have to wait about 4-5 months for it to be made too. You might want to check out berk. Invidia is a decent exhaust but they had issues with cracking welds on their mounts awhile back that some of the member on the site had to deal with. I think invaidia backed their product and took care of the problems but who wants to deal with that.

AlphaSnacks 02-05-2012 02:07 AM

They weren't cracking welds on mounts. The old design had flex sections that would tear and leak exhaust air. Notice I said old, the new flex sections have been redesigned and all Geminis on sale now feature the new ones.

I have them, and the redesign was very smart and holds up just fine, especially if you're using OEM brace.

Agreed, the bigger issue was leaking flex pipes, I was working off memory. Although, a few people have has some issues with the welds as well.
