Default exhaust tone in person

So one of these day im gonna buy the fi hfc and cat back with 18" res. My question is i have heard many examples on here and you tube. But i have never heard one in person. Is it a big difference is person to what they sound like online. Of course it sounds better but i am wondering how so? Tone, loudness, rasp? Thank you

I have the FI exhaust with 18" resonators and stock cats. After watching the videos and audio clips of the exhaust, it was louder than I expected when I experienced it in person for the first time. Not in a bad way though. And the tone of it matches what you hear in the YouTube clips.

beautiful. i love the tone was wondering about the sound. Since i am getting the hfc do you think i should get the 18" or the 12" res. I want people to hear it but i do not want overpowering and i am not a fan of a lot of drone on the highway. I had a bassani exhaust for my svt and it was loud, drone was rediculous, dont want that again.

I'd go with the 18" resonators then if you want to minimize drone. Especially since you're going with hfc's. You should give Tony at FI a call. He's a good guy and will be able to advise you on what you're looking for.

Tony just installed my F.I. w/ 18" res. last weekend (still have stock cats). I too was wondering this for a long time before purchasing.

Fit, finish and craftsmanship are second to none. Although not fully broken in, my first impression is that it sounds great but I was a bit surprised at just how deep and loud the "quietest setup they offer" actually is in person. This is by no means a negative comment, just unexpected. Tony and others tell me that this system settles down a bit (~15%) after a few hundred miles which is typical of most performance exhausts. Between 1.5k and 2.5k rpms the system seems to be at it's deepest and loudest in the cab. There is a slight hint of what some may call a "drone" as you pass through 2k rpms, but it comes and goes quickly and is completely tolerable for me. As you approach 3k rpms it turns turns into a symphony of automotive performance and I find myself revving higher than before. No rasp. The tone is deep and smooth.

Well said and I agree completely.

Haven't noticed any gains yet on the butt dyno, but I have been taking it easy during the break-in...no WOT runs yet.

I should also note that on my 3 hour drive home after the install, freeway cruising was completely tolerable. You can sense its there with the stereo on but it isn't overpowering.

I didn't really feel anything on the butt dyno either but it sure does sound mean at WOT. People have seen increases of about 20 hp with the hfcs and cbe together.

i have HFC and CBE 18" res SS cans. after about 100 miles on the highway it quieted down some but was still pretty loud. i am at 300 miles on it now.. wot sound crazy lol so good... i get nothing but compliments on it. i wander now though what it would sound like with the res cats since its still pretty loud.

so you need to get the hfc and the cbe to get the 20hp increase . I taught if you add the cbe you get the 20hp increase.

I think 20 hp is a stretch for just the cbe alone.
