AAM Short Tail Exhaust
Ok I've asked a few questions before and got some good ideas but now i have done some more research and found something else i am interested in and is more in my price range. So I am gonna go with Z1 post maf silicone tubes with K&N drop ins. I originally was gonna put in high flow cats and a JDM y-pipe and call it a day but now i see these AAM short tail exhausts and like the sound they give. Does anybody have this setup with HFC or a performance y-pipe? And if so how is the sound?

I have the setup you will have with stock exhaust back to the axle back. One of my friends has the axle back and test pipes and it is much louder. I used a decibel meter app on my phone and at about 2-3 feet his car was at 80 decibels at a warm idle. We are doing a dyno day Sunday and I can let you know how loud both of our exhausts make as well as power differences. As for sound, my friend's exhaust sounds a bit higher pitched than mine under acceleration but at a cruise it sounds about like mine, just louder. Here is a video I took of to give people an idea of how my exhaust sounds, as I said his has a slightly higher pitch than mine, also it has a bit of rasp to it as well.

you can do this with a y pipe/exhaust and it sounds good. once you put on hfc's or test pipes it get to loud in my opinion. I changed it out soon after changing to the HFC's because of this. I have a nismo y pipe and mid pipe for sale that would sound great with the short tails.

That would be awesome and with your set up it isn't crazy loud? How is it performance wise over completely stock? |

i can say from personal experience that short tails with test pipes and a y-pipe is EXTREMELY loud. heard its a lot more mellow with cats. but i know it was loud enough for me to only have it on my car for 15 min

I personally don't think mine is to loud. At a 75mph cruise the exhaust pretty much blends in with the road noise. Under acceleration it sounds loudest around 4k rpm but nothing that would keep me from doing it again. I'll also take my go pro with me and get video of both my exhaust and his exhaust so people can hear the differences as well as get the decibel level of each. I don't think just the muffler is a huge gain, I saw a dyno somewhere showing they only gained a few horse power over stock. I'll be happy if I make close to the stock dynos I've seen most people posting up. I think 4k feet of elevation is going to kill my power. I think a good comparison will be between my car with the K&N dropins+Post MAF+Muffler delete and my friends car with Stillen G3 intake+Test pipes+Muffler delete

Because this is only an axle-back option you'll probably gain some but it will be very minimal.

You're going to lose back pressure which translates to less low end torque then you'll gain some top end HP. As far as I know.. the only way to fix the torque issue is with upRev which I'll be doing soon.

Is there a dyno around showing this loss? I just find it hard to believe that removing a muffler would cause a huge loss of back pressure. The exhaust is still being restricted through the cats, smaller diameter piping, resonators, then the muffler. I imagine the loss of tq would be extremely minimal.
