Berk HFC & CBE Install

After reading through a lot of reviews and listening to a lot of sound clips I decided on the Berk HFC and Berk CBE setup and lucked into a deal for both that was taking place on this forum. This past weekend I finally got to install my new Berk HFCs and Berk CBE! I'd been waiting since September to install those bad boys. My uncle lent us the use of his lift which made the installation quite a bit easier since we didn't have to crawl around underneath the car taking parts off and putting parts on. The only thing we had to deal with before we lifted the car was the demon bolts.

I was worried about the demon bolts after reading through the threads on this forum. I ended up breaking the heads off the bastards but I kinda expected that to happen. I also broke a 3/8" extension, from harbor freight, while trying to get the bolt off on the driver's side. I had to use 3/8" to get around the steering column. We got out a 3/8" craftsmen extension and it held but the bolt head did not.

Demon bolt defeated!

After getting the original cats off the rest of the installation was a breeze.

Here's the HFCs.

All parts installed and ready to be started up for the first time.

The total install time for the CBE and HFCs was right at 4 hours and 30 minutes, with a few other people helping. I have to say, I love the aggressive exhaust note with this setup. It's quiet when your just cruising and really comes to life when you get after it. I also went with the Z1 MAF tubes and AFE air filters.

All in all I'm happy with my purchases and would recommend these parts to anyone!

For anyone looking at installing the HFCs all I can say is, make sure you have the correct tools for the job, 1/2" drive and universal joints made it easier. The 22mm oxygen sensor removal socket and a big old breaker bar with good grips on it.

Props.

Nice job. HFC is one mod I am anxiously waiting to do. I am terrified of the legend that this demon bolt has earned itself.

nice mate, I've just installed a cat back exhaust myself a week ago, almost got the cat's off but noticed they didn't actually turn up with the exhaust.. so didnt' get to change these right away, we were having lots of trouble with the top cat bolt though, where did you get access to it from? and did you use anything specific apart from long extensions to get it from the top through the engine bay?

chill1221 01-02-2012 10:25 PM

I accessed the top bolts on the HFCs through the top of the engine bay. Luckily I didn't have to remove the MAF tubes to get to them, they were a challenge to put on. I used 36" of extensions to reach those bolts. I used 1/2" drive on the passenger side one but was forced to use 3/8" on the driver side because of the steering column. I also used an impact universal joint. I broke both of the bolt heads off but that's ok because Berk supplied replacement bolts.
