Looks don't make HP. IMO ( as much as I'd like to see results) manifolds only benefit with FI.

not necessarily, Sasha showed that the VQ can do with a better flowing manifold...

seen here...

Also I haven't seen any before or after dyno to back this but it makes sense

as said previously I dont know what this upgrade will do in real life although I have an idea or at least hope

The runners in the stock lower manifold are squares and not really "flow improved" and they have "dents" inside for the bolt threads. The upper manifold is widely open and jagged inside so that air can flow everywhere and is not directed but only collected.

The GT-R manifold provides air flow from the throttle bodies inside the outer collectors and then divide the air into 2x3 runners where it can accelerate and is not swirled. A continued round shape provides maximum flow vs. the angular design.

For a natural aspired engine the most important thing regarding air intake is to provide as few restrictions as possible - even better is to create a situation where the engine is offered more air than it would naturally aspire, called "ram air" and is e.g. used in motorcycles. You try to force a positive pressure into the cylinders which is nothing else than a turbocharger does by brute force.

It may be that Nissan rocket engineers have calculated and designed the manifold to create maximum torque and power and that my upgrade does nothing good but from a common sense I would say we actually will see an improvement of any kind whatsoever.

But Spoon is absolutely correct - this mod has proven nothing yet and until we put the car on the dyno and compare with our runs before nobody can say it was worth the money and the effort.

@Kingbaby
the runners cannot be any lower because otherwise the upper plenum will hit the valve covers - we chose the lowest position it can go. First I was hoping to work with strut bar spacers but it showed that the GTR manifold is a lot higher than stock plus doesnt have the notch for it like the stock one has plus the stock plenum is angled towards the front while the GTR sits at a constant level.

tomorrow we will continue the welding on the lower adapter and today the upper plenum goes to the powdercoater. Stay tuned for more pics soon !

Chris

following Spikuhs suggestion I have updated the first post in this thread with information about parts needed to do this conversion plus a link to my facebook album for all pics from the very beginning until the most current state.

Just a suggestion. Since your initial post on the first page has a lot of broken images, you could replace it with all this information.

You would spend all that money for looks? What if this robs HP? I'm still skeptical until proven otherwise.

People buy 5k + body kits... and 4k+ wheels... whats the difference. I'm just saying if I got all of my desired mods and my car looking the way I want, I'd do it in a heart beat.

edit: pending it doesn't loose horsepower. Time will tell.

No I would not but it doesn't hurt to show some encouragement and interest, especially since this still in development. Plus it looks killer, and I'm leaning towards it being horsepower positive rather than negative.

You can definitely make positive horsepower gains with a forced induction kit.

as some of you asked for a weight comparison I bolted together the stock upper and lower Z34 manifold vs. the now welded lower GT-R/Z34 Adapter and R35 upper plenum.

Both units are completely comparable as all other parts like TB, fuel rails, hoses, bolts, etc. will stay the same - we only weigh the 2 parts that differ !

The outcome suprised me more than I expected because as you can see in the pictures the scale shows exactly the same position for both - 6.5 kilogram / 14.3 pounds !

so at least we are not going heavier
