iirc, the Z33 HR parts fit on the 370z(like the intake manifold, exhaust heads, ect.) so if it works on a HR 350z, it technically should work on the 370z

i am not entirely sure though so if i am wrong, someone please correct me

You would spend all that money for looks? What if this robs HP? I'm still skeptical until proven otherwise.

370Z JT 04-17-2013 02:08 PM

^ agreed.

Hoping this works out!

People buy 5k + body kits... and 4k+ wheels... whats the difference. :ugh2: I'm just saying if I got all of my desired mods and my car looking the way I want, I'd do it in a heart beat.

edit: pending it doesn't loose horsepower. Time will tell.

I believe you are correct, I'm just thinking for those who may not know that so they don't get confused.

Because based on that idea, this could technically, potentially, fit on a 350z HR motor as well, correct?

I was just making sure that it wasn't a typo.

Driftomodachi 04-17-2013 04:26 PM

Interesting. I hope the gains are worth the trouble. Subscribed =)

Mandingo 04-17-2013 08:23 PM

I wonder how much room there is between the hood and the top of the manifold. I know the front brace will need modification to fit, but is there even enough room available?

With the brace out of the way, there's a fair amount of room between the stock manifold and the hood. I'd say probably 2-3 inches.

No I would not but it doesn't hurt to show some encouragement and interest, especially since this still in development. Plus it looks killer, and I'm leaning towards it being horsepower positive rather than negative. :)

You can definitely make positive horsepower gains with a forced induction kit. ;)

ChrisUR 04-22-2013 03:46 PM

as some of you asked for a weight comparison I bolted together the stock upper and lower Z34 manifold vs. the now welded lower GT-R/Z34 Adapter and R35 upper plenum.

Both units are completely comparable as all other parts like TB, fuel rails, hoses, bolts, etc. will stay the same - we only weigh the 2 parts that differ !

The outcome suprised me more than I expected because as you can see in the pictures the scale shows exactly the same position for both - 6.5 kilogram / 14.3 pounds !

so at least we are not going heavier ;)

Nice work!!

ZBro16 04-23-2013 09:33 AM

sub'd. nice work.

ChrisUR 04-23-2013 05:25 PM

today I port-matched each runner on both sides (upper flange and lower flanges) and grinded away any welding ridge. The flanges are 100% gasket-match so there are no edges disturbing the air flow !

next step is test-fitting the whole assembly with fuel rails, throttle bodies, etc. to check for strut bar options and general fitment.

then I will powder coat the GT-R Adapter and it should be ready for final installation and first engine fire-up :)

Chris

Wow, this thread is still active! Looking good, Chris!

http://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.ne...32866341_o.jpg

this is the final prototype GTR Plenum Adapter with mounted stock fuel rails and injectors !

http://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.ne...28339987_o.jpg

today we made great progress - the lower manifold is installed, fuel system is back in place and plugged in and all necessary pipes/hoses found a port to connect except the intake pipes which I need to modify and install tomorrow.

If nothing goes totally wrong I should be able to start the engine tomorrow for the first time.

Chris

PS: as you can see there is no clearance issue with the oil filler cap :tiphat:

Kingbaby 04-29-2013 04:04 PM

*silly question time*

I'm sure I've read the answer some where, but lazy...would this fit a HR?

Awesome seeing you see this through...

DIGItonium 04-29-2013 04:20 PM

IIRC, technically it should if the mounting points for the lower manifold are the same for HR/VHR. Plus, HR owners have better clearance without the VVEL stuff in the way.

Sh0velMan 04-29-2013 04:23 PM

Just waiting for dynos. :)

I confirm that the lower intake manifold to the head has the same bolt battern.

I even took the VVEL lower intake manifold on my HR head because it was less dirty than my HR ones.. hehe
the VVEL lower intake manifold has the number 37 casted into them
I applyed black marker to the number on my picture

even though i may not buy this no time soon it's exciting to see it!

JC671 04-29-2013 07:26 PM

Finally... A metal intake manifold. Just waiting to see dyno results.

Chris, looking forward. Once everything works and say there were gains made. How soon would we see the prototype lower go into production & be available for sale? Who would be selling them?

Thanks for innovating and I appreciate you sharing this with the community.

Shadezz 04-29-2013 07:28 PM

Amazing Buddy....Just Amazing......

Jordo! 04-29-2013 07:32 PM

Not to pee in the punch, but was there a baseline dyno for this car so we know where we started?

Looking forward to seeing how this all turns out...

Nixlimited 04-29-2013 07:35 PM

He has one I believe.

Or at the very least, has access to a dyno.

ChrisUR 04-30-2013 12:14 AM

Yes I made several dyno runs before and have a dyno next to my garage so that will be no issue !

G37sHKS 04-30-2013 04:16 AM

Oh man things are getting serious now!

I was just wondering how come a guy all the way from German could get this possible in couple of month regardless the delay that he had because of the events etc.. while GTM are still in process..

Mad Props for you Chris

I'm worried that GTM got to this same point and saw no gains, so they ****-canned the whole thing. When companies spend money on something and get nothing out of it, they don't generally post about it on the internet. :(

Here's hoping this gets us something though!

O&G 04-30-2013 10:13 AM

I'd like to think it would help FI folks but I'm sure we won't find out that information for awhile. Looks fantastic, good work.

wheee! 04-30-2013 10:23 AM

It's a thing of beauty....

ANMVQ 04-30-2013 12:25 PM

looking for dyno results?

MyKindaGuise 04-30-2013 12:31 PM

Looks amazing! Might even be worth the money just for looks even if it doesn't gain well.

as long as it doesn't lose hp, that's what I'm in for

If it starts to lose HP, just slap a GTR sticker on it....

I think I'll get more from a forum decal or eight :bowrofl:

ChrisUR 04-30-2013 02:10 PM

so guys the day has finally come and we put it all back together ! Engine started no problem and idles smooth as stock. Took it for a little test drive around the block and throttle response is great and it still feels like a daily driver - no weird noises nor behaviour.

Everything else will show the dyno run and the track test but up to this point I'm very satisfied how it all came out so far.
