project was dead before it began.

sorry for the ultra long delay - we were really busy during last year with customer projects so the parts for the GTR manifold laid around in the shelf and catched some dust but finally I brought my car inside the shop to continue/finalize the work !
please find below the pics of phase 1: "disassembly and test fitment" ! please be aware that this is only a very first teaser I show to the public because of so many people asked for progress during the last months I felt I owed you an update. The real work with customization, fitment adjustments etc. will follow during the next days and weeks and I keep you posted if you like. Next steps are welding the lower manifold adapter together, build a template to be able to reproduce, fabricate the new custom -6AN fuel rails, check and do all the piping/hose connections, check all clearances and finally dyno test, uprev tuning and street/track test driving. but for now enjoy the pics of the disassembly and a first look of the GTR manifold sitting on the VQ37HR engine :tiphat: http://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.ne...14375941_o.jpg VQ37HR engine with stock intake manifold still in place http://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.ne...02263899_o.jpg removed strut bar http://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.ne...11737756_o.jpg removed upper intake piping and plenum cover http://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.ne..._1268462_o.jpg removed upper plenum and throttle bodies http://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.ne...39084839_o.jpg removed fuel rails http://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.ne...46109511_o.jpg removed lower intake manifold http://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.ne...18954951_o.jpg test fitment of the new GTR_370Z lower manifold adapter - not yet welded, just for clearance check http://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.ne...55861902_o.jpg GTR R35 plenum loosely sitting on top of the manifold adapter - final adjustments will be made to clear oil filler cap http://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.ne...26954254_o.jpg the hood closes flawlessly with the plenum in place - not checked strut bar clearance yet. |
Cool deal, in for pics/updates.

Sick! I zoomed out so far I can't even read the text on my screen.
How's the oil cap? |
sorry for the image size - I linked them directly from facebook and was not aware they display in full resolution :)
the oil cap will get a bit more clearance when the plenum reaches its final position on the upper flange, I hope its enough to open and close it flawlessly otherwise we will revise the design of the lower plenum adapter to push the upper plenum back just a little bit. the throttle bodies of the GT-R R35 and the 370Z are exactly same - the bolt pattern and the I.D. is a perfect match. Only difference the plastic plenum of our cars use an O-Ring for sealing towards the TB and the GT-R plenum will require a real gasket (OEM Nissan R35). its correct that the position of the TB is slightly more forward - we tried to push the plenum back as much as possible but you are limited by the rear end of the engine/head, so that is about the max we can go. If you have an aftermarket intakte like STILLEN etc. you easily cut about 2 inch off the piping. For the stock intake with airboxes you should also be able to shorten the piping but that has to be tested later on. To be honest I cant imagine that somebody who is willing to upgrade his/her intake manifold runs stock air intake but you never know ;) Chris |
In for results! Do you have an eta when you might have a working test model?
