Chris, when can we expect results from the tuning session?

roplusbee 05-25-2013 04:04 PM

I would really like to know a ballpark price and/or if there will be a group buy. As I stated before, Kinetix is the ONLY other non-plastic manifold/plenum out there and they are sitting on the fence right now. If I can't have this, I will be forced to allow them to develop and test on my car (or wait until someone else offers their car) and I LOVE driving my car. Please square us away. Service Members (and Prior Service) hate the hurry up and wait game, since that is what we do most of the time. So, again, please square us away!

G37sHKS 05-25-2013 05:39 PM

Chris,

Can you sell the adapters for those of people who dont want to wait for any more dyno result? (like me)

I want to get this ASAP

X2  I don't need further results. I'm sure a tune and more dyno time will only increase the gains made.

Most def. I am not interested in the tuning results on a NA Z since I am TT'd. I just want to get rid of the plastic plenum, lol.

If you guys want a Z with a factory motor (no head swap) to test this on just let me know. I'm sure we could work something out.

Who needs a Z, what do you think this is? A Z forum???? Nah you gotta test fit it on a G (step off gomer, your f****ing up my game).

lol I like the idea of people competing to give our motors the most gain. For some reason I feel like our motors are really lacking in this department (outside of FI)

Just happy that for once there's actually something good locally here in Ohio. Generally all the tuner shops developing parts are on the coasts or in Texas.

You should consider moving to Texas.

All, as much as I would love to keep my plenum, there are priorities keeping me from pursuing this goal. My GT-R plenum and engine cover is still boxed up and looking for a buyer, and I rather ship within the 48 states.

Please forward it to me

Finally sold my intake plenum. Been in my possession for over 2 years. Had to move on with other priorities. :(

Dwnshift 06-11-2013 07:24 AM

Pm sent

Any chance you can get me that info as well? Not in the market quite yet, but I'd love to know what options are out there.

Everyone is in the same boat. Add me to that list.

For what its worth we added my intake manifold into solid works the other day. Looking into some custom options...

I'll take care of it man! You will see it put to good use. Currently seeking out options for custom fabrication to use with my nitrous kit.

New thread being started....
For those that would like info please sub to it.

first of all sorry for the long delay again - I had other priorities than my own car for the last weeks.

today I finally found time to continue working on making this conversion as perfect as it can be by constructing a "new" matching strut bar when moving to the GTR manifold.

this is a first glance and far from being finished but just to give you an idea what we are doing currently and to show some progress ;)

http://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.ne...32883230_n.jpg

thanks for being patient with me - I have ordered the OSIRIS Tuner version and when it arrives we finally are able to make a custom tune and see what gains can be accomplished.

Chris

370Z JT 06-13-2013 03:20 PM

I just got a hold of the plenum and engine cover! Looking forward to more details.

Spikuh 06-13-2013 04:04 PM

About what I expected you would go for. Seeing it now, a thought just occurred to me. Since the whole brace wraps around the engine on both sides and will cause a bit more flex, could you put in vertical pieces between the brace segments to connect them and pull out some of that flex?

Something like this:

Gibby1113 06-13-2013 04:29 PM

Sweet mother of God ME GUSTA. How much for one of these???

ChrisUR 06-13-2013 05:01 PM

@Spikuh

thats a good idea but I'm positive we wouldnt need extra braces when my design is finished. The angled braces left and right running towards the front will be doubled, means 80mm (3.149 inch) width and 20mm height and the horizontal brace will be 60mm (2.362inch) wide and 20mm height (0.787inch).

the material we use is a 2mm (0.78 inch) wall thick hollow square steel pipe.

The welding done by my professional welding friend (who also did the welding for the lower plenum adapter) assured me each welding point he makes between the new brace and the stock brace mounts can hold about 1 ton - we make 12 welding points on each strut tower.

I drove the car without any strut bar after the GTR plenum was in place. You felt a significant difference in driving especially as my car runs 3.5° negative front. Every wheel rut was very annoying.

Then for my last track day I cutted the stock brace horizontal and installed it only connecting the towers to the firewall. That made a tremendous difference and I couldnt feel any disadvantages on the race track - I even drove 2 seconds faster than a few months ago with the stock plenum and stock brace. Even though I had the impression that on a very bad road surface there was a negative effect not having the full brace.

In 2 weeks I'm on the race track again with the completed and fully installed new brace - you will get real world experience and honest reports as always.

Alright, sounds pretty good. I only mention it as some others were also talking about how these angled braces could/should be a loss of stiffness.

Also, and this can go to anyone really, any idea why the brace mounts to the chasis and not the tops of the suspension towers? A friend of mine mentioned this to me while I was helping him install his 1.5 SC upgrade and I found it odd. I assume that mounting it to the chasis as opposed to the suspensions towers does not achieve the same result, or correct the same "problem", but could be incorrect.

Can't wait to see the new brace.

Just looking at the location of the top of the suspension towers, you would need some funky angles to get it up and around the motor.

Ok, so I guess I will keep watching.........

Sorry for the super slow response. I agree that it would be super tricky to tie the tops of the towers together but I guess my real question is does bolting the brace down to the frame near the towers achieve more or less the same results?

And oddly enough, based on what Chris was saying how the car felt with the brace off as opposed to on....I guess that answers my question. :inoutroflpuke:

370Z JT 06-18-2013 11:05 AM

Adapter in production yet?:driving::tup:

roplusbee 06-18-2013 01:34 PM

I wish we could get an update on the adapter instead of a new or modified brace. I would definitely look into that later. If this keeps going I this direction, I will simply take another option and let this option go.
