And maybe a price point. $1000? $2000?

Yep, honestly there does not seem much stock wise we can tune out of VVEL, but it would be nice if someone would try to do some cams and throw them in and see if the system adjust for it.

Looks like the z34 made a believer out of you I know you were part of the z33 v. z34 dilemma.

I always knew and accepted that the Z34 was significantly faster than the Z33.

Some of the mechanics from Baker Nissan, I know one of them, went to Dallas last week to study VVEL. He said that there is only exhaust cams in the head and that the intake system works more like roller rockers, with fingers letting in the air, etc... thats why you see that big solenoid towards the back side of the driver side head. That was his explanation, but we were drinking so.....

I assume that was Jason, he has torn an engine down once and taken a look, I was busy that day so I missed it.
The system sounds very complex but when he explains it I feel it should be easy to modify and expand. I think one of the issues is we just do not have enough support for this platform and the companies who are doing R&D are swamped with current projects.

We need to find someone with millions to buy into this platform and start paying for new R&D.

His name is Greg, he's a STI dude but he works on Nissans up there @ Baker. I was hoping you could give some insight. I know you know the Baker people well. I was hoping a company could just slow the whole VVEL system down tad, retard it or something, but it's obviously not that easy....ugh!

I know Greg, Green STi wrap currently.
The issue with adjusting VVEL is that the ECU has no control over it, the system is completely separate from the main ECU. This is what is causing all the problems with adjusting timing when tuning because the ECU shows it, but the VVEL system overrides any changes.

I am hoping that Uprev will be able to get some progress on their VVEL block they tore down recently and see some worthwhile results. I usually bug them once every few months to check on progress and anything new they have found.

Wait...so GTM was saying their "preliminary" results showed signifigant gains when tuning VVEL and then they just gave up?

Doesn't that sound odd to anyone?

There is more than just finding the results, you have to be able to reproduce them without extreme cost.
I believe at the time GTM was using a stand alone ECM system to adjust VVEL which most people will not want to buy and then pay to tune VVEL. Where as Uprev is working on being able to use existing ECU/software to control VVEL creating a cheaper solution with the same results.
