Larger Throttle bodies...?

Anyone ever thought about using larger throttle bodies? I sent an email over to MaxBore to see if they would be willing to look at boring out a 370Z TB.

Default Larger Throttle bodies...?

Obviously enlarging the intake manifold inlets is a must, but from my experience with all motor cars, this can really free up some hidden power.

Thoughts, ideas or opinions?

Curious what that would do with the Motordyne Plenum? Would it foul up your A/F ratio?

I'm sure it would alter them some... you really want to tune the car every time you change something. I kinda regret not getting the Uprev as the first thing I did.

Good enough for what? a million hp?

Sure there has to be SOME limitations to the stock stuff. I bet you would see gains if they were bored, bored intake manifold and a ECU tune.

Side note, does anyone know what the stock size is?

I would be interested to see if annual gains came from it. I would think if it were to make power that a company would have already done so... then again I'm not qualified to know this. Might make no power and might make more than one would think.

From what I've seen over time there can be some very small gains in HP. But it is defiantly a art to doing it. Not worth the cost though. And if someone messed one up, your going to pay big to get another.

On cars with regular throttle plates, it usually just runs like crap on idle (unless you match the bored throttle with a new throttle plate) and you gain like 3 whp..

However, since throttling is mostly handled by VVEL, it might work well...

Not sure what would happen with dashpot calculations on decel -- I think that's one of the few times the throttle plate actually does anything, and the extra volume could have it running too lean and stalling.

Nobody's attempted this yet?

Looks like Impul has a throttle body kit.

When you talk about all motor power, the gains may be minimal, but hook them up on a boosted engine and the gains may actually be worth it.

There is for sure an art in boring them, and I think combined with the UpRev, you'd be able to tune out any changes in AFRs that it occurs. For a few hundred bucks, it might be worth it.

I wonder if motordyne is able to over bore their manifold... hmmm...

Probably minimal but the only way to really know is via test.

Has anyone thought about smoothing out the throttle body where it meets the intake and making that lip smaller to smooth air flow? I did this with my old car and it made a very slight difference, but it's cheap and easy.
