Getting those demon bolts out..
How many people here had a hard time removing those bolts? My plan was to PB blast it and let it sit overnight and start the install the following morning. I'm getting test pipes soon and plan to install them with the help of some friends. Also, where can I pick up some new bolts and gaskets for the test pipes because the guy I'm getting it from isn't supplying me with any..

Any local automotive shop should have the bolts and gaskets you need.
Try: Autozone O'reiley Pep-Boys |
oh thank you so much LOL i was freaking out because i thought i had to get it from the company that made the test pipes lol

Just make sure to get 3 bolt and 2 bolt ones since the connection to the header, and the connection to the Y-pipe are 3 and 2 bolt respectively. The biggest problem with the demon bolt is people trying to remove it, messing it up, then being unable to 'fix' it once they've started. So now they have an exhaust leak. Be sure that at the first sign of noticing it's not doing what you want, unless you have the tools to remove it by other means, stop what you're doing and just take it to a shop where they can. Otherwise you risk stripping your header and now you have an exhaust leak. If you're giving it 24+ hours of PB blaster, I do the same, occasionally coming back out to spray more every few hours, it should be ok. Some people have had success with heating the bolt as well. Although I'm not sure about doing this when it's covered with a flammable liquid such as the PB Blaster... so take that with some caution. |
how did people get the PB blaster down to those areas? using a pipe to leak it down there or?

Ok after much more research, people say to NOT use the generic gaskets from autozone and such.. Does anyone know if it is okay to use the ones I have already from the stock cats to header and y pipe? Or should I go to Nissan and buy new oem ones?

Don't know about the gaskets but I removed all the bolts on my own with no air tools. I PB blasted for a week. A few hours prior I warmed up the car and PB blasted. Here's the big one. QUALITY IMPACT SOCKET. They are made to fit tighter and have much less flex. Also ensure the socket is flush and fully on the bolt. Don't even think about putting any force on that bolt if you don't think the socket is perfectly flat. Wouldn't hurt to have a friend hold it against the bolt to make sure. AND big breaker bar. I use a 4 ft galvanized steel pipe. Good Luck.

I only had 2k miles on my car when I changed mine out, but I can tell you that for the demon bolt you are doing the right thing with the pb blaster... I would actually use it several times that night or over the course of several days to really get it in those threads. I bought a 20" and 10" 1/2 extension with the 14 mm socket... I bought the impact socket, but wound up using the standard (all Kobalt tools by the way). I then removed the intake hosing and even the strut brace. You don't need a universal... just have someone under the car to guide the socket onto a SIX STAR SOCKET!!! Very key there... NO 12's!! and then have your half inch wrench and apply pressure... you can use a breaker bar... but sometimes slow steady pressure is better to get the bolt to break loose... have a friend put his hands on the wrench as well and just increase pressure slowly.
The extensions are at a diagonal angle.. but it fits right up flush to the bolt, as it is at the exact same angle ... so it works out pretty well. Just keep soaking that bolt, even if you are going to take the car out for a ride... soak it all over, it will help to remove some rust if any is present as well. Hope this helps. |
I got lucky and both bastard bolts came out without damage. Just an outrageously loud POP! when they let loose. Made me think I broke the head off lol.
I used Kroil on them 2 days before attempting. Like others stated, make sure your 6-point socket is on there very squarely. Use knuckles, extensions and a big breaker bar. I removed the driver's side airbox to make it easier on that side. Also, wait until you have a good chunk of free time because this isn't something you want to rush. good luck! |
started to PB blast it tonight, got everything i need. wish me luck :D

Actually have to pick up gaskets at the dealership as well as 10 bolts (bolts just incase i strip any) tomorrow. When i was using the PB i noticed that the cat to header pipes didn't have a gasket in between.
