Magnaflow/Flowmaster...

...Are they made specifically for muscle cars or can they used on imports? I know people already use them, but were they made with muscle cars in mind?

never heard of Flowmaster with a Z... don't know about magnaflow though... if you like that tone the ARK exhaust is probably for you.

I have the Ark Exhaust and that magnaflow or flow master tone is nothing like it. They isn't any similarity between them let alone the tone of magnaflow vs flow master.

Flow masters are loud as hell even when put on a 4 banger. Idk where you got the opinion that the ark exhaust is similar in tone to those two exhaust.

I have heard PLENTY of Flowmaster sets since I had one on an old 93 5.0 Mustang I had and they aren't "loud as hell" and when did I ever say they sounded alike either, please quote where I did.

I said the ARK, because it has a very low end growl, and many liken it more to the tone of a V8... thanks for completely misreading my post though. :gtfo2:

So that's what you mean, you should've clarified because the tones of the exhaust are not even close.

Maybe what's loud to me isn't loud to you. Different strokes for different folks.

As far as your GTFO comment. LOL internet thug...

They probably were originally made with muscle cars in mind. But, eventually they had to expand to the import market for more sales. I have a Magnaflow catback on my EVO X, and it sounds good. It has a deep low end rumble, and sounds really good once the turbo is spooled up. I think the Magnaflow for the Z is 2.5" piping, whereas the one for the EVO is 3". I am not sure if this changes the sound though.

Magnaflow - 2009-2010 Nissan 370Z Exhaust System - Magnaflow 16595 - Magnaflow Performance, Stainless steel, Direct fit, 50-state legal

Flowmaster doesn't make an 'exhaust kit' for the 370 that I could find. They do make several resonator and muffler options. You could get these built into a custom designed exhaust system, but not buy a full kit from them.

Thanks guys. I don't know that much about exhausts for cars, so I just wanted to make sure I got something that would work the best with the Z. I don't want anything too load, but I do like a little grunt.

The Fast intentions seems to be the norm with most... if you get a CBE for it with 18" resonators it shouldn't be loud at all... add in some high flow cats or test pipes and your sound will increase. I recommend the ART pipes made by Motordyne for any exhaust set-up personally.

Ark has a new exhaust coming out soon and so does Motordyne, so I want to wait, but if neither of those have what I am looking for when they are completed, I will be going with F.I.'s CBE.

If you are looking at getting catback exhausts, I would stay away from slip joint types like the one posted above. I had a slip joint exhaust on a Suburu Impreza WRX STi and it was a pain in a butt to seal properly.

Agreed, not a fan of slip joints.

Subie :yum:

Magnaflow and berk hfc's here. Love the sound of my exhaust and get compliments on it from corvette drivers to honda drivers.

Methodical4u 09-04-2011 07:48 PM

Just buy an F.I., Ark or wait for Motordyne's new exhaust. There are other quality exhausts out there, but those are the 3 quality exhausts that many here go with... especially the F.I. top quality work.

That x-pipe looks terrible to me. They pipes are almost at a 90 degree angle!
