Well, the stock exhausts of the G37 and 370zs are identical. But maybe the G37 exhaust was designed to be slightly louder to offset the additional sound deadening whereas the Z's exhaust was designed to be slightly quieter due to the Z's lack of sound deadening.

You can't compare aftermarket exhausts though, it is apples and oranges due to the variations between different aftermarket exhausts.

IDK...but to me both the "stock" exhuasts for the 370 and G37 sound identical...Now the 350 and G35 stock exhuast has a bit of a purr and rumble...as a matter of fact the 350 and G35 sound a lot better stock for stock compared to the 370 and G37. Only way to fix the issue with the 370 anr G37 is to upgade to an aftermarket exhuast system

I have to agree with the OP

In my Condo Building there are 3 G37's. When they drive away, there is a nice purrr to the exhaust, like the FX45 but the Z sounds really really quiet.

That always upset me, I figured the Z should sound much sportier of the 2

However, I have the FI exhaust now, so all is well and I don't feel inadequate with my exhaust note :)

The stock 370Z exhaust is quieter than my G35 stock exhaust was but they both sound great. Now I have an aftermarket exhaust on the 370 and trust me people hear it and it sounds great IMO. Honestly, I didn't even look at replacing my G35 with a G37 so I don't know what the stock G37 sounds like.

I've always noticed this when I had my 350, I could always tell a G35 over a 350. And its the same with the G37 and 370. I think its because the G has longer pipping since it has a longer body style.

UNKNOWN_370 08-26-2011 11:32 AM

Anyone who says they sound identical is buggin' out or you just don't know. Having owned both and the G35 as well. The G is much deeper, while the Z is more whiny. The G resonance is reminiscent of a v8 while the Z sounds distinctly like a v6. I found the gencoupe and G to sound closer together than the Z and G.
I can hear a sub-tone in both that helps me identify the 35 and 37's and Z's as VQ's, but there definately is a difference in depth. Why I don't know? Maybe its the length in exhaust piping. The G is a foot longer.

A stock G37 and the FX both have more pronounced exhaust note than a stock Z's but as soon as you go aftermarket there is no comparison...

I have never seen someone take a G exhaust apart and compare it to a Z's exhaust but I'm sure it has something with the length and exhaust internals as stated by others.

I actually had the G37S before, now the 370Z. The G was def. louder than the Z with stock exhausts lol

maybe nissan didn't try to tune the sound of the z as much as the g because 90% of z owners are going to ditch the stock exhaust anyway...

Somberlaine 08-31-2011 07:54 PM

There is a discernible difference between the two. Unlike the 370z, G, FX, and EX sound the same.

The 370z is super quiet. The 350z had a nice rumble maybe like the g37. I don't know why Nissan would make the 370z sound like a Lexus.

This is because, all cars in the world that produced after 2008 have to confine to a new sound limitsin the E.U.,included Ferrari, that why the lastest Ferrari 458,is also very quiet in standard mode.

The exhaust would just change note and turn super noisy, it would start to drone. At first I thought my exhaust was loose, turns out either the bike carrier or the bicycle itself is changing the exhaust and its frequency. It's the weirdest thing given the 5-6" gap at the exhaust tip

Why is that weird? 5-6 inches is nothing.

my dad has a G37 and I notice a difference. I have no idea what causes it, but his actually muffler is longer than mine... IDK if that has any effect just throwing that out there
