CAI vs. SRI

This is of course going to be a dumb question as i'm sure most on here are technically inclined when it comes to tuning, however, i really need to know if there is a placement difference in the k&n CAI and SRI for my 370z. I previously owned a 2007 honda civic si and had many issues with water uptake from the CAI installed on it as the filter was so damn close to the underbody/ground that every time it rained the intake would get clogged with water and the engine would die. Needless to say, I changed to the Injen SRI for my civic in which i had no water issues as it was securely installed/mounted under the hood and no where near the underbody. My question here: Am I going to have water uptake issues with if i install K&N CAI on my 2011 370z ? Thanks for any advice you experienced tuners have for me.

I don't think there is a k&n CAI only SRI. Stillen g3 is a CAI and the placement of the filter makes it hard for it to suck in water. Stillen g3 also has the most gain.

:iagree: Go with the Stillen Gen3. Best gains and the only CAI where there is almost no possible way of having water ingestion.

There isn't the K&N CAI... right now Stillen is king when it comes to intakes... Motordyne I believe will be developing one soon, but that could be a while.

Also Takeda has just released a new CAI for the G37's, won't be much longer before the 370Z press release if you can hold out... Similar piping as the Stillens, but with rubber tubing to go between the shroud supports, supposedly you won't have to cut anything like you do with the Stillens. And it will consist of 1 large filter as opposed to 2 separate ones.

Is this the takeda you're talking about?

That's an interested concept... hopefully they will test it on a 370 as well since the G37's front is more open.

I'm waiting to hear back on whether or not the 370Z version is through with R&D. Hopefully should hear back on Monday.

awesome deal! I'm quite interested in that... but I wonder if it's going to be like the R2C's where on the G37's it produces a lot more power than supposedly on our cars... though no one has done an independent dyno so I can't confirm that.

Well that's just like Top Secret who made an SRI (out of Ti) and claim that it produces better gains than the Stillen Gen III's (A CAI). Yet still costs 5x as much... No one's bought it that I know of, and there have been no independent tests to confirm it...

There are been independent dyno results.

I thought that was at the top secret dyno or something?

Methodical4u 08-13-2011 09:10 PM

either way... no one unless they are very very rich or just dumb is going to pay 1100.00 for a set of SRI's that put out basically the same power as a 525.00 set.

theDreamer 08-13-2011 09:11 PM

Nope, that was done in Houston, Texas.
