Stillen catback in Ti?

Josh or Kyle - Any chance of you guys doing a Ti pipe? The way I see (and hear) it, Stillen has the best-sounding pipe with pretty much the best

Default Stillen catback in Ti?

Josh or Kyle - Any chance of you guys doing a Ti pipe?

The way I see (and hear) it, Stillen has the best-sounding pipe with pretty much the best performance gains. The only thing is - based on the subwoofer plan I have - I'd love to lose some weight.

I assume I'm not the only one who loves the Stillen catback but would be willing to pay for the weight reduction of Ti (as long as it's $3k or less). I realize the tone would change some with titanium, but hopefully it would be close.

Am I dreaming here? Probably.

Sorry - the sound on the Amuse just isn't working for me. I wish it did...

RCZ - yes: the goal for this car is to be both a track car and daily driver, and while the audio system isn't going to be ballistic, I would like to have a decent sub. I would feel better about that sub if it was weight neutral, and I'm already planning on bailing the spare for a can of fix-a-flat. Everyone's got their compromise on weight reduction - if you still have a dash, glass windows, and a headliner anyway - and a sub is one of those things that is important to me.

I was actually surprised that you went with a SS exhaust on your car. Ti exhaust systems are certainly not a cheap way to lose weight, but they are pretty compromise-free otherwise...

i think i saw a picture of the MINE'S titanium exhaust.

Here's another option, get light weight wheels.

I was going to do that later, but it's a fair point. When paying almost $2K to drop 20 lbs., it makes way more sense to put it toward wheels, which offer improvements in overall, unsprung, and rotational mass...

The really cheap weight loss is the battery - the irony of the subwoofer is that it kind of take that option off the table as well...

To each his own, but I just don't find even the stock sub worth it in this car. Don't get me wrong, I love music, and I like to listen to some while I drive. But if I want a top-end audio experience, I've got that at home

I pulled my stock sub out and replaced it with nothing, and turned up the bass a little bit on the audio settings of the head unit. Sounds fine for driving music, even if it lacks a little bit of bass punch. It's not like a car with as much road noise as the Z is ever going to be a rolling concert stage anyways (at least not without adding a lot of weight and going against the nature of the car, imho).

I hate to say it, but the nature of this car is overweight (I almost said "fat pig", but that title belongs to the Camaro), 3300 lbs. is too much for a proper sports car - and it stems from the fact that under the Z has a sedan platform at heart.

I'm not trying to rip on the Z, but I am pointing out that the uber-weight-conscious wouldn't buy this car in the first place (it took some getting over for me). It's 200 lbs. more than a 'vette, 500 more than a S2000, and over 1200 more than an Elise. Considering the fact that this is basically a GT car, I don't think it's unreasonable to want decent sound, especially when, by the time I ditch the spare, my guess is that the sub is only about a 20 lb bump - if you've got the touring pack, your starting point was 50 lbs. over mine in the first place.

Sorry if I come across as grumpy, but I'm not even sure why I'm getting a hard time. Yes, I want to add some weight, but I'm trying to balance it out with weight savings on the other end. Realistically, its basically all psychological - I don't have a lap timer, and the car is no doubt faster on the track than I am at this point (which I can at least admit). But after all, isn't this whole board about what people want, for no real reason? I don't see God collecting lap times to find your spot in heaven/hell.

Final point - if I have bass in the car, I will get laid more. My wife loves bass. Even if I didn't, that would be reason enough for me...

Simple solution: Take out the passenger seat and sub, nice weight savings. Strap the sub to the passenger seat. When you go out for a ride have the wife sit in the seat with the attached sub wile it is in the garage. Since none of this is now in the car it's a big weight savings. Just find the appropriate music to play until you return.

The 'vette costs more and quite frankly I'm done with the big 3 US automakers anyways. The Elise is considerably more costly as well, and comes with a matching downgrade in horsepower to go with that downgrade in weight. The S2000 is a valid argument if modded to hell, but I just don't like the car really

I don't think it's bad to have decent sound in a car like this either or I'd be ripping the whole sound system out, we just have different definitions of reasonable sound. I like the touring seats, they're comfy We all make tradeoffs. As I prefixed my opinions earlier at the start of my post: "to each his own".

Nobody's trying to give you a hard time, we're just expressing dissenting opinions. On some philosophical level there may be no reason for anything here, or for the Z to exist. But there has to be some level of rationality to the modding process. To some of us, paying for a Ti exhaust on a car with added audio weight over what the stock system already has seems illogical from a $ to performance ratio perspective. On the other hand, for some people money is no issue to begin with anyways.

I've had the opposite experience. I pulled the sub out of my car and coincidentally got laid for the first time in a while mere days later

Won't get into the big argument BUT . . .

I would think you could just go SS with the exhaust, get the lighter wheels and come out just a little more on price and a lot better on performance gain.

Thanks... that may be what I'll do... or I might get wheels *and* exhaust... or none at all...

Anyway, the point of the thread was not a grand philosophical questioning of 20 additional lbs. on my car , it was to ask Stillen whether or not they were eventually doing a Ti pipe. Since they haven't answered, I'll take it that the answer is no.

And you'll therefore get more exercise and maybe lose the 7lb additional weight the standard Stillen adds to the car?? Sounds like a wash to me!
