Hmm, I may have to investigate that piece. It is close to the exhaust, but that won't explain why it doesn't vibrate with the windows down. I'm out of town for the next few weeks I will try it when I get home

Mine only rattled at certian times, but it was the cause for my rattle...

The dealership just replace my exhaust with a new stock one and now I'm getting in-cabin vibration from 3500-4k. Drives me nuts too :-(

Rattle was gone for few days and now something else is rattling!! It's not bad as before but it's there!! IT"S DRIVING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

Mine has the same issue. Definitely coming from inside the car. I think it might be the plastic piece on the inside of the hatch. Hopefully when I put some sound deadener panels in, it will go away!! Makes a nice car sound cheap as f@#$! :shakes head:

AbelRob: I'm having the similar buzzin after installing a new aftermarket exhaust, I think it may be that plastic on the hatch itself as well. Did you resolve that issue?

Thanks,
q

I have a rattle also but mine is in the trunk and sounds like its driver side. Sounds like thin metal rubbing only when im 3000 - 4000mph and heavy on the gas. Thought it was the car jack rubbing or something but appears its not. Have no choice but to try and dynamat it and see if I can fix it. Drives me nutz!!

Yea I hear a buzzing only under moderate to high accel. What i did at lunch today was stuffed one of my micro fiber rags in between the glass of the hatch and the plastic that butts against it (on the passenger side) and it almost went completely away! Looks like im going to to line the perimeter of the window with some small rubber tubing to suppress that and dynamat those the panels.

I had to try something! I know its not the heat shield because thats off the car. I know its not the license plate because I already took care of that. This kinda of stuff gets under my skin to the point where thats all i think about until i find a solution!

Good luck!

Thanks, you too! Very frustrating!! And I am the same way. My cars hibernating for the winter so its not easy to find the rattle without driving it so im going to have to wait a while, so of course, ill be racking my brain thinking about it for the next 4 - 5 months lol

I completely removed the heat shield, would that be a problem?

You think your rattle is bad. Try removing all the rear panels inside the car like I have and see how annoying that is. I have removed one heat sheild pictured above. But I'm thinking it's the one around the gas tank now. Not removing that one though.

For me it sounds like the plastic from the rear hatch vibrating but i could be wrong. Please let me know if this is what you are hearing and it IS actually that heat shield piece that you removed in the picture above.

I saw your post on the FI exhaust thread and Tony said to bend the corner away for my clearance. Please let me know what you did to resolve it. Its drving me bonkers!

Thanks!!!

Yup I bend the corner like the instruction said.. but it was still vibration, so I removed.

RESULT: The rattle from the back that sound like the metal is completely gone. I am happy.

However there are some rattle (plastic, not metal, coming from passenger side. I am trying to isolate that buy driving at that RPM range where rattle begin and putting my hand on stuff to see. :ugh2:

I also remove the Touring model retractable trunk cover and that HELP A TON!

BTW, I have Touring model with Bose, 7AT.

Hey all...

Same exact problem. Sounds like it's coming from inside the rear passenger hatch the vibration kicks In at about 3200RPMs to 4000RPMs... Doesn't sound like a metallic rattle, or something that a heat shield removal would cure. but more like loose plastic panels from the inside of the rear hatch, its seriously driving me NUTS... It is literally all I can hear when I'm in the car now... Very irritating. What the heck is this? I have been waiting for a nice day off when I can really get in to isolating, locating, and exterminating this issue. . . Still have not had a chance to.

mrcoolguyface 01-20-2012 01:52 PM

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that large heatshield the one over the fuel tank?? Shouldn't we NOT remove that? LOL
