Has anybody ever used K&N filters dry? CAN you use them dry, or would too much dirt get though minus the oil??

K&N Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
"K&N air filter oil is a special compound which forms a very efficient tacking agent that helps capture dust." so yes, you can use it dry but it will pass a lot more dust particles (than it already does). |

The oil is there to capture dirt particles. Without it, the filters will let in far too much contaminants. Not good and not recommended. K&N's require re-oiling about every 50k-100k miles depending on type and use. There are dry type filters available from other companies, but I wouldn't run the K&N's dry.

Thanks for the input. I figured dirt would get through without the oil. Think I'm gonna go with the AFE dry filters. Kinda lost my taste for the K&N. Cleaned mIne with dish soap and water in a spray bottle, cause I was out of the K&N stuff, then reoiled em like always. Noticed a tiny bit sluggish. I knew oil had got to my mafs! Cleaned my filters again with K&N cleaner and a TON of oil came out!! My solution did not do the trick, was probably too diluted, and alot of oil remained although they looked clean If u guys decide to make your own concoction, be careful of what happened to me. Anyway, just gonna go the dry way I not worry bout any oil any more! Ordered someAFE dry's.
