K&N short intake question
 

So I'm at this place where I typically have work done on my car and they were telling me how the gains from a K&N intake ($430) were about +14hp. I don't know a damn thing about CAI's so I wanted to get some thoughts. If those gains are true, then thats a pretty cheap way to gain some significant hp.

Also, more importantly, will a CAI VOID my warranty?

If horsepower is your main concern, the long tube intakes will always yield better horsepower gains than the short ram intakes. Regardless of what the K&N Typhoon ads claim. I've seen dyno results putting the Typhoon short ram gain around +6 or +7 at 7,000 rpm. If you can, spend a little more to go with the long tube intake - either the Injen or the Stillen Gen 3. That's where you'll see double-digit HP gains.

And that's coming from a guy with the K&N Typhoon. I like it, but would've gone with a long tube intake if I could have. :)

As far as voiding the warranty, I couldn't tell you. I'm hoping to find out, myself.

I think it depends upon the service manager, what broke, and (probably) what mood they're in.

I f'd up my typhoon installation.
Five days after I installed mine, a small piece of rubber got stuck in one of the throttle bodies. Got it towed to the dealer, and they fixed it.
The Service Manager asked who installed it (me), and said that it wasn't covered by the warranty, but that was the worst of it.
Charged me about $300, and $100 of that was towing.

PS - I agree with Eihtballs comment regarding the long tubes make more power, but I didn't want to hassle with the additional installation issues.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yes I was originally thinking about the long tube as it was only about $100 more (I was told the specs showed +19 hp). The reason I was thinking about a short tube was because there was only a 5 hp difference between it and the long as well as the fact that my Z is my daily driver and I was worried about water getting in the long tubes easier.

don't the post maf tunes with K&N drop ins add like 16 or so whp?

i installed mine about 3 weeks ago. I am very happy with it sound is worth it alone. that how this engine should sound! At first it felt a lil sluggish under 3k. But now its great think it just took time to adjust. You won;t be dissapointed.

Did you go K&N? Short or long? Also, how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

k&n typhoon short ram. got it on amazon for 296 shipped

IMHO they are great and will net around 10WHP. Install is easy and they sound mean.
