The results seem pretty consistent on midrange gains for un-tuned vehicles. Some people seem to be reporting what appears to be some overlap between the manifold's gains and tuning gains (i.e. they can gain the same midrange from either just tuning or just the manifold, but no additive effect when tuning with the manifold in place). But others claim to have tuned w/ the manifold and still gotten gains from it. I guess it depends who does your tune and how they do it.

I feel if you do CAI, TP's or HFC's, exhaust, and a Tune you would be good to go. That these mods together would benefit the most. But I'm not knocking the manifold.

I'm still not sold on it. I saw first hand and have a vid of a 40th with full bolt-ons and a tune lose peak hp and tq and only gain about 5-6hp/tq midrange. IDK???

With a factory tune the gains are better. Some tunes (including a canned one from uprev that I had) show no gains at all installing the M370. Most likely you need to re-tune properly after the M370's install to see the gains again, as it does affect AFR.

I saw zero gain or loss with Gen 3s, Berk test pipes, Invidia Gemini Exhaust and Z1 tune, even with a retune and lots of dyno time.

I'm going to get an Uprev tune soon and will report back to see if I got any additional gains.

If your in for dyno numbers you might not want to buy it. variables too many!

I suggest getting long tube intakes over those RC2's.. (those are short intakes, right?) =P

Z1 is a good tuning shop, that's part of what makes this all up in the air. The results with proper tuning have been mixed depending on the car, the mods, who did the tuning, etc. The only definite thing seems to be that you'll get some good midrange gains on a factory tune.
The whole thing is kind of frustrating to understand. If longer intake runners produce more midrange torque (which makes general sense), they should continue to do so with proper tuning as well. Based on my dyno runs with the M370 on+off the car over two days, the M370 does seem to also lean out the engine slightly though, so that's something to be accounted for one way or the other. It's possible that either the tune needs to be adjusted to keep things sufficiently rich in order to realize tuned gains with the M370, or the M370's un-tuned gains are all from just running leaner rather than "true" gains in breathing configuration. Results like the ones from Mike (tuned at Z1) would seem to indicate the latter. But then again my stupid canned uprev tune basically did nothing but lean out the engine, and I saw basically zero gain from that on the stock manifold (and a very slight loss w/ the M370), so it doesn't seem like our cars respond well to being leaned out in the first place. Personally, my jury's out on this until I get it tuned on my car (still waiting for LTHs to come in first). |
