HFC'S or Test pipes???

I've done my research and ready to but a set. But I don't know which way to go. I don't want a code. And don't know if I should risk running test pipes. Your input would gladly be appreciated.

HFC's are more conservative whereas TP's are more unsensored

comes down to personal preference, would you rather be legal, queiter, less likely to throw a CEL, or be loud, smelly (subjective), and have (slightly) more power

Get the ART pipes. Best of both worlds.

Dzel 06-15-2011 10:36 PM

I'll look into them. I'm leaning towards a set of CNT resonated test pipes

tranceformer 06-15-2011 10:58 PM

I've tried both.

You'll get about the same HP/TQ gain from each, the rest is just a preference.

Test pipes
cost less $
stains on your rear bumper cover
more rasp (although some like this)
louder

HFC's
cost more $
the cores can be destroyed after some time
quieter, less rasp

converter revision

I have been hearing more and more about any type of converter breaking up and because of position being sucked back into the motor and causing some of the oil usage problems with the VQ engines from time to time, any thoughts?

I've heard of that happening to late model Sentras because Nissan decided to put a mini-cat on the exhaust manifold, literally inches from the combustion chamber.

I doubt that would be a problem on our cars, cats aren't that close.

Go test pipes. And if you want quiet test pipes and dont mind spending more money go with the MotorDyne ART Test Pipes. HFC's are expensive and make less HP, yea its only a little but is less. There is still a restriction unlike the straight path of the TP's. As for your concern with the CEL. Fast Intentions Test Pipes are designed with an extended 02 sensor bung that is suppose to keep the CEL off but I have heard of cases of people still getting a CEL. Choice two, are you planning on getting the car UpReved Tuned?? If so the tuner who performs the tune can shut down the rear 02 sensors and trick the computer into thinking everything is a okay. Hope this helped.

P.S My rear bumper does not get stained but there is a smell of unburnt gas. But it like it. LOL

Econ 06-16-2011 08:09 AM

Burning all your gas is mean anyway, i prefer to leave some unburnt :yum:

Dzel 06-16-2011 09:46 AM

I love that smell

Econ 06-16-2011 09:49 AM

me too, thats half the reason i bought em....they arrive on saturday...cant wait!

Dzel 06-16-2011 11:07 AM

Ordering mine today as soon as they open up.

sTeadFasT96 06-16-2011 11:15 AM

Personally, I don't think HFC's are worth it. Test pipes or just don't bother.

:tiphat:

apexi957 06-16-2011 11:42 AM

I have HFC and i'm planning to sell them now. Test pipes all the way or bust. If the test pipes don't pop a CEL then you're good. In emissions if the CEL does not pop up, test pipes or not you're good to go!

Econ 06-16-2011 11:47 AM

yea, my car will be getting tuned shortly anyway, so i dont really care about the CEL

Dzel 06-16-2011 11:48 AM

I'm going with the CNT through Nissan Performance.

Footloose301 06-16-2011 01:11 PM

I like my GTM ResTP. No codes..... Cheap too.

SPOHN 06-16-2011 06:56 PM

+1 on the GTM. Mine are non resonated. No codes. Just the smell......that I love.
