Personally the dynamat suggestion is probably a good one. Don't need to go overboard, but a little can take the edge off. I had resonated test pipes and a CBE on my old 350, and it was almost unbearable. |
So I just bought a G37S muffler, I do know that the tips are going to stick out by 2 inches or less, so it's eventually going to get cut/re-welded.. Rumor has it that the stock 370z pipes aren't the greatest as far as sound goes. Problem is, I don't know how the whole system works..
So air goes into engine via intake to the engine > headers > catalytic converters > mid pipe/y pipe (wait, hold on, is y-pipe a midpipe?) > mufflers? Either way, my plan is to get the g37 exhaust and swap out the midpipe section with some other brand. aiming for this noise: |
Debating between two exhaust. Could someone help?
I HATE the stock exhaust on my car.. I want to add a exhaust to my Z but Im stuck between two.
Fast Intention, and HKS. I have only heard youtube clips, which aren't very accurate. I was looking for some input from people who actually own the exhausts. I want the exhaust to be loud, but sound good. I want it to sound deep and beefy, almost like v8-ish? if that makes sense. I will also be getting stillen intakes, maybe berks HFC, if that matters. Thanks a lot! |
I can't give much insight on those two, but I'd check the Intakes/Exhaust section for more in depth responses on these two exhausts.

They both sound good. But we can't tell you how good they sound like. The best option for you is to go down to the local meet and hear them for yourself. I myself will prolly get HKS since I had FI before. I'd also recommend you the Motordyne exhaust. They sound awesome.
|
Those Berk HFC will definitely help with the sound you are looking for. I have the FI non resonated exhaust and it sounds great. it has a deep sound to it and its pretty loud. i have no experience with HKS though
|
Thanks for the answers so far! Forza, why did you get rid of your F.I. exhaust?
|
OP, where are you in PA? If you are anywhere near the northeast part of the state, you could hear my FI in person (probably from where you are right now. Even indoors. It's loud).
|
Both are quality exhausts. I think more 370z guys have the Fast intentions.
Just an FYI on the fast intentions, a buddy of mine has it and is lowered like 1.5 inches and scraped the shiznit out of the cans.... The HKS i believe is not as low. Just another thought but the litespeed full titanium exhaust is pretty sexy too. Its a little more then those but since you didnt list a budget i figured i would throw it out to you. I spoke with Patrick at Litespeed and he was a cool guy and was offering great prices! |
I love my FI exhaust...

There are a bunch of YouTube videos as well, some of which do a nice job with showing the stock vs the new one, and not having tons of other stuff changed.
+1 for checking out a meet and hearing some options. Personally, while the Z is a huge upgrade for me and sounds good to me stock, I will someday also upgrade mine, but probably with a Tanabe (Japanese car...Japanese parts...at least that sounds good). I like their sound, and don't really want something loud-look-at-me, but rather something that makes me smile; and bass clarity makes me smile. :) Something to deepen out the running sound and give it a better start-up than stock. That's really all I'd want. Always hear good things about the FI exhausts though, and they sound excellent. |
