Default Exhaust leak??,s

I have had my LTH's for about 1,500 miles or so and today my service engine soon light came on for the first time ever. Will an exhaust leak trigger this light to come on? I suppose my first order of business is for me to put the car on the lift Monday night and make sure everything is all tight. I hope its something simple cause im sure the dealership will renig on the warranty as soon as they see the headers. Has anyone experienced anything like this? BTW I have z1 motorsports antifoulers installed aswell. Any input would be a great help. Thanks

You should be able to hear any exhaust leak significant enough to trigger a cel. Have you had the code read yet? Anti foulers aren't always 100% effective.

Rooskey,

you have the F.I. lth's correct? why did you add the Z1 antifoulers when the headers come w/the J bend antifouler already?

Have no idea what the cel is for w/o pulling and reading the code (obviously), but we got a cel driving around the day after we had ours installed, wife was pissed since Tony promises his headers won't trigger a cel. Went and had it read at the dealership, (ours is very cool, they don't hassle us about any mods). Turns out, it was a small evap leak caused by the gas cap. We got the new gas cap ordered under warrantee, code cleared and after 500 miles, still no cel.

Cliffs: I doubt it's your headers throwing the cel.

You have to scan the CEL to determine the cause, however there is no way you would have a leak as the header is one piece unless one of the o2 sensors got loose for some reason. Definitely get the code scanned, that will give you some direction.

Thanks for the input guys. Yea I dont think I have an exhaust leak cause the car is quiet and I cant hear anything just thought it could be a very small leak. FL 4motion I installed the anti foulers just because I ran them with my HFC's and never had an issue so I thought I would (not fix it if it aint broke kinda thing) for reassurance. Anyways I hope my dealership is cool with the mods. Ill keep yall posted on the results

Yeah, I suppose it can't hurt to have the antifoulers in there as well. If for some reason you ever decide to ditch them, don't sweat it, Tony is correct, these headers don't throw a code w/the J bend sensor spacers built in.

PS--I hope the cel isn't from one of your O2 sensors taking a sh!t, that was my biggest fear when we first had the cel come up since I know what a pain removing them from the stock manifolds can be.

Ok I had my in house mechanic hook up his code reader and it came out saying it was a catalyst efficency below threshold (in other words its the secondary 02's on both sides). I put the car on the lift and removed the anti-foulers I had installed so I am just running the j bend now. Once I got them on we cleared the codes and I have not had the light come back on as of yet. I may have 40 miles on it since the changes. I hope this works but I doubt it will. Time will tell.

I never saw this thread until tonight or I would of chimed in sooner. As stated before, you do not want to use any aftermarket anti fouler in conjunction with our headers. It is not needed!

Now I have not received a phone cal from you so I am assuming that the CEL light has not come back on.

We have have close to 80 sets installed between the 370Z & G37 coupe. I think only 3 people have gotten a CEL light at some point. You being one of them.

Now if it comes back or if you just want to brainstorm, please do not hesitate to call me directly...

Thank you, Tony

Just got F.I. rest. Test Pipes + TDX CBE installed. After 300 miles my SES lit up, how do i know if it is the test pipes leak causing it? and if so what can do about it? I was under the impression that one shouldn't throw an SES light with the test pipes because the 02 sensor still connect to them. any advice will help thanks.

Fern,

If it is exhaust related it is due to one of two things.

1. You have an exhaust leak in front of that rear O2 sensor. What that means is it could only be one place. The connection point between the resonated test pipe and the stock exhaust manifold at the 3 bolt flange.

2. One or both of the O2 sensors was either mis handled and has oils on the probe, or they get damaged during the installation.

That is it, it cannot be anything else. Call me directly if you have any questions...

Thanks, Tony

My problem came from installing an extra set of anti-foulers on top of the J-bends. Since I removed those I have had no issue's. Time will tell though, but from others experience I should be good to go now.

Thanks Tony,
I'll take it back to the shop tomorrow and have them look at it.
