My exhaust looks almost exactly like the Nismo...What is the difference? I don't want any warranty issues, as my car is 3 months new and 3400 miles on it...I haven't done mods on anything since my '69 vette back in the 80's...And ...if I get this exhaust and the Nismo CAI, then I will need a tune right?? Will Nissan honor my warranty? Do they do tunes?? Yep, lots of questions..
I drive a Nismo and feel that my exhaust tone is embarrassing compared to those guys who run the respected aftermarket exhausts i.e. FI, Stillen, Berk, etc... If you're going to spend the time and effort, go with something like FI. Compare YouTube sounds and you'll see what I'm taking about. If warranty is an issue, just wait it out until you're closer to the end of your warranty.

I wouldn't expect significantly greater gains from any other exhaust that will cost double that... also, you can also probably pick up a Nismo take-off for under $500...

For substantially larger gains, the OEM cats have to be replaced with either high flow cats, test pipes, or long tube headers.

Whatever you decide on, you should definitely get a before and after dyno -- good luck

Yes, I have found a take off from a Nismo for 500, and some Berk HFC's for 350, new in box...so If I get these and don't want to change my chip tune, will it still run better, and run right thru the rpm range? I have Full warranty minus 3 months since car was purchased new in April...My shop said they wouldn't even mention the cat change if I blew my engine or something serious....The problem is I don't want to mess up a perfectly great running car...Just want better sound without voiding the warranty...The mastertech at my dealer told me the HFC's would wake up my stock exhaust and that the only significant difference is the H pipe on the Nismo....I hate to drop 500 and be disappointed in the Nismo exhaust...Has anyone put HFC's on as the only or first mod??

I hate to sabotage anybody else's sale, but I think I let my stock Nismo exhaust go for $225. Maybe I got ripped off... but as everybody is saying, much more and you could go aftermarket.

The carbon fiber FI exhaust sounds AWESOME. I've had people that don't even own Zs approach me and ask all kinds of questions and multiple females have described the sound as "sexy", which is a win as far as I'm concerned.

The nice thing about the Nismo CBE is that there's not much (if any) drone in the cabin. Even with the 12" resonator on my FI CBE setup, it's hard to talk on the phone and I can't really listen to audiobooks at a reasonable sound level, even on an aftermarket stereo setup. Music is fine.

Hope this helps.

I bought my Nismo catback for $250 locally. I love the sound but probably wouldn't pay any more than that.

Yeah, something in the $250 - $350 range picked up is about right...

I wouldn't be overly concerned with HFC's voiding a warranty for the drivetrain -- it's more that if for some strange reason they failed, Nissan isn't going to replace your cats. Otherwise, its a pretty safe and reliable mod with solid gains (and environmentally responsible to boot).

As to a tune, I'd say not critical, but recommended for a cat back and highly recommended for any swapping out of the OEM cats.

I'll make one other point that frequently gets lost in the shuffle: Changing the exhaust set up on this motor and not getting any hiss or rasp is tricky...

HFC's and TP's need resonators.

Larger diameter Y pipes (and allegedly, aftermarket H and X pipes) tend to make "whooshing" sounds.

And so on...

Before you commit to any exhaust (other than the S-tune, which is, frankly, of poor quality and makes virtually NO extra power, or the Nismo H-piped take off, which does make decent gains) make sure you do a good bit of research to establish what if any weird rattles, hisses, or rasps will crop up...

Good luck!

Do the carbon fiber mufflers on the FI exhaust sound different than the regular mufflers, or is the carbon fiber purely an aesthetic difference?

I would venture to guess the latter -- aren't they just an outer wrap?

Thanks, and I'm likely going to wait for better deal. Actually with top down my car sounds great when I romp it or when downshifting. I don't want too much attention, as I am fairly aggressive on a regular basis. My car leaves me smiling every day and I've had a lot of fast cars over the years. This car does it all really well and I am pleased with its rigidity. It is as stiff as my crossfire was, which means rock solid. And 110 more horsies. HFC's will be my go to first mod as it really sounds great and opens up the flow. Again, you guys rock.

Nah, it's not a wrap. They are significantly lighter and sound different as well.
