They told me there's so little clearance between the tubes that wrapping wont be all that great. Also mine were already coated, so heat isnt really an issue...if it rasps, it rasps.

Yah haha, I just hope I don't have to drive all the way back hom with a CEL on. That would suck. Either way, its worth it just to hear it, too bad I cant get HD video of it.

One thing though, they called me earlier because apparently there were no gaskets provided somewhere...I think someone else was complaining about this. I wonder if this is normal or not...

You're supposed to re-use the factory gaskets.

Yeah the wrapping could be done on one of the tubes the other two are so close to each other that wrapping them would not be complete, so if it was for heat I would just recommend coating them which these are. We could have charged for the work but why if not really need it.

I checked with Stillen and they feel the gaskets are not needed between the cats and headers, the stock system doesn't have them either but their fit seems to be more of a slip tight fit than the Stillen are but we will see, should be good.

Really? Are you sure? I have the exact same headers.

yup, sure. I didn't feel it was that necessary to start with, I would have only done it for sound. I'm not all that concerned though.

There may be some mis-communication going on here. The stock manifolds and cats do have a gasket from the factory. Last I heard from Stillen, they were saying re-use factory gaskets at the header<->cat junction, whereas Berk supplied aftermarket graphite gaskets (very different than stock) with their HFCs for the same junction. I used the ones from Berk in my install. There's no way that interface is supposed to be gasket-less. It's two pipes mating at a flat junction with 3-bolt flanges, there's no overlap or slipfit involved.

RCZ, if you're trying to find the missing factory cat<->manifold gaskets, they may still be stuck to the old parts. IIRC it's a small circular copper gasket, not a big flange-sized thing like the aftermarket ones. It could easily have stuck to the edge of the pipe on either side.

I was responding to westpak's assertion that you can only wrap one of the tubes and the other two are too close together to be wrapped properly. Obviously, that's not correct. You just need the right skill/patience. But hey, now you know why my mechanic took 3 hours to do the wrap when you said that it should only take 20 mins. Mine are CC coated too, btw.

I was referring to the manifold <-> engine gaskets when I said that the factory gasket should be reused. I thought that's what RCZ was referring to when he said that there were no gaskets provided.

Well either way I think Stillen's official answer is the same: re-use the factory copper gaskets.

Yes, they are designed to reuse the factory gaskets, which are a ring (not sure it's copper, brand new it's silver colored) that needs to be swapped.

When I talked to RCZ's installer (recalling the conversation) I probably was not clear on this point, as he was looking for gaskets in the box, but the instructions say to swap the OEM gasket (which doesn't look like a typical gasket).

I believe I was not clear in my explanation, and for that I apologize..

EDIT: Here's a photo of a similar 'gasket'

Wrapping headers may have a downside. If you happen to live in the rust belt or anywhere they use salt on the roads you may end up with a corrosion issue from 'hot' salt. It can be pretty aggressive. However, the coating on the headers should be sufficient to prevent this. Use care not to damage the coating on the headers.
