two different nismo exhaust????? (nismo car ver and S-tune ver?)

i thought S-tune nismo exhaust =stock nismo car exhaust. while i was searching, the look different, is there performance difference as well? or just s-tune looks better b/c they are

im new to mod and stuff, so i dont know lots about it and couldnt really find with search.

If you are looking at upgrading your exhaust there are many exhaust out there that are much better than the either the Nismo or S-tune.

I have the Nismo S-tune and its significantly different than the OEM Nismo exhaust.

OEM Nismo: 1.75" Primary pipes that stay true dual throughout the exhaust. They increase to about 2.25"-2.3" later on down the pipe run near the mufflers. There is a H-configuration crossover near the engine. Flows better than the OEM 370z exhaust but is not as sharp or fancy in build construction as the S-tune. About a 5-6 hp gain max for swapping this in place of the OEM exhaust.

Nismo S-Tune: 2.4" Primary pipes, joining into a single 2.5" y-pipe, then splitting back to two 2" pipes, through two resonators which stay 2" inside then back up to 2.4" out the back and through the muffler. About a 3-5 hp gain max for swapping this in place of the OEM exhaust. It's also VERY quiet.


Personally, I got the Nismo S-tune exhaust and made some modifications. I replaced the "Y-section" and resonators with a 2.5" Stainless X-Pipe and Vibrant 2.5" Stainless 18" Resonators. Basically, the first half of the exhaust is a Berk X-pipe and it connects to the S-tune muffler. The whole thing is now 2.4-2.5" through and you can really tell the difference in power and response vs the off-the-shelf S-tune. I added ERZ high flow cats and called it a day. It's a whole new animal now and sounds awesome. Will be posting sound clips shortly. Not the cheapest way to make power but definately very unique sounding. Fast Intentions and or Berk is cheaper but lots of people have those.

To the best of my knowledge there is no clear evidence of which one performs better. Either one would be an upgrade from OEM.

better is a point of view. Like jordo and many others, the nismo was "better" for me than other aftermarket exhaust, even my old fast intentions.

To the OP, if you are looking for that signature Z sound without increasing your volume levels (just a nice increase in growl and tone) than either nismo versions will work for you. I think the s-tune is a tad bit deeper than the stock nismo, but this may just my ears playing tricks on me.

Interesting on the Nismo S-tune exhaust. I was ready to dump my S-tune and go for something else, but would take a major hit on the $$ already shelled out for the S-tune. This looks like a viable alternative. Could you give me the break down cost and vendors to do this mod? Any sound clips yet?

I already have Berk HFC so that is one item I will not have to swap out.

Hey bud, I picked up a 304 stainless x-pipe from Pypes which was actually made for mustangs. It's a very close fit but you need a couple of things to make it work. Not cheap to do but prob cheaper than losing money on the S-tune and buying another exhaust.

Pypes XFM43(S) -- 304 stainless x-pipe, about $185+shipping, have exhaust shop trim the inlet pipes to the first 45* bends. They dont make them anymore but should have some left in stock if you call them.

Vibrant 304 Stainless 2.5" tubing -- Used 5 ft of this to make smooth easy flowing connections, about $95 total

Two Vibrant 304 Stainless 18" Resonators (4" Body) -- Paid $130 for these.

All in all with welding, about $500. End results is a ton more torque and a much better sound. I will try to get some soundclips soon for it.

I attached a rough diagram below and it should make sense. The pipe diameter right after the flex sections is 2.4" and the section after the resonators is 2.4". The section in the middle is the restrictive part and thats what got replaced. Sounds clips coming soon.

Also for comparison is a diagram of the OEM Nismo exhaust. The pipe size up front is still tiny but has an H-crossover so its decent.
