erz/cnt test pipes

ok ive read through the threads on these but havnt seen anybody say whether or not they have had issues with cel's with the test pipes. i know the reviews are good with the hfc's. so does anyone have the test pipes and do u have any issues with cel's?

GZ3 03-11-2011 04:47 PM

i'm pretty sure these have passed the CEL test...

brado 03-11-2011 05:56 PM

does anybody have them though? i want to know for sure from somebody that has them before i buy them

i had a CEL with the CNT high flow cats. i then stuffed some steel wool into O2 sensor hole, but got a CEL again shortly later. i found that the key was to roll up the steel wool into a tightly rolled ball so that its just slightly larger than the O2 bung and stuff it in. i've been driving for almost 500 miles now with the ball of steel wool with no CEL.

spearfish25 03-11-2011 08:53 PM

6k miles, 4 track days, and 5 autoXs on the HFCs with right angle extender bungs and no CEL.

brado 03-11-2011 08:55 PM

ok i believe im going to go ahead and buy them. with the steel wool i just roll it up and put it in the bung that the o2 sensor goes in correct? then the other bung comes with a plug to seal it up i believe. and should i put locktite on the seal for the extra bung?

locktite wouldnt be a bad idea. mine definitely became loose after a few hundred miles and started rattling. as for the steel wool, yes...just roll it up into a nice thick ball and stick it into the o2 sensor bung. ive yet to get a CEL after numerous long highway trips, while before the steel wool, id only get a CEL if i went on a long highway trip (city driving would be fine)

ok thanks for the info. i went ahead and ordered them last night so hopefully i wont have any trouble.

u can always get a tune

BLM 03-12-2011 11:47 AM

+ 1

Uprev tune can ignore code from rear O2 sensor so you don't get a CEL.

i thought about that and i asked my dealer and he said if i got a tune then that would completely void my warranty cause it changes everything about ur engine. i explained to him about that court case envolving warranty but he was acting that it didnt really matter. so i think ill go the safe route cause i dont want to get into any legal matters just in case something ever goes wrong.

That is good to know since I just got my shipment yesterday but I have not installed them yet.

brado 03-12-2011 01:36 PM

i guess every car is different. im gonna do that steel wool thing though to try to prevent it from happening.

Dembflyr 03-12-2011 02:42 PM

Maybe it depends on the car but I think as long as you have the extended bungs, make sure there are no leaks and O2 sensors are tight, you shouldn't have a problem.

I started out with Berk high flow cats for about 7000 miles and I now have the CNT resonated test pipes. Not a CEL from either set. I've had the RTP's for only about 100 miles so far but no issues and I am very impressed with the quality for the price.

That's definitely a cheaper option. It'll allow you to buy a cheap test pipe and just weld the bung on. Good find!
