Test Pipe owners chime in

Chime in your loves and your hates of your test pipes....keep it breif, just curious

NYBladeZ 03-02-2011 06:04 PM

hated the rasp, you might get some fumes. Nonetheless, when I paired it with my otherwise stock exhaust I had good gains and a much better sound.

daisuke149 03-02-2011 06:04 PM

love: good power
hate: loud and rasp.

GZ3 03-02-2011 06:14 PM

Motordyne ART test pipe owner here:

No rasp
No Hiss
Fume smell is gone
All the power
No tq loss

SPOHN 03-02-2011 08:38 PM

GTM TP, just install. Hadn't ran with them yet. Probably loud and raspy. I love that. Adding Greddy TI-C also this weekend.

Viera 03-02-2011 08:43 PM

I'm running the F.I. RTPs. I loud how loud and throaty it is. There is definitely hiss on decel. and the smell of gas when idle or at a stop. Love it though, and wouldn't have it any other way.

NYBladeZ 03-02-2011 08:48 PM

I wonder, do the ART pipes resolve the VQ hiss? The hiss I have now is extremely loud but I've come to grips with the fact that its just a characteristic of the VQ.

Big J 03-02-2011 08:52 PM

I have invidia non-resonated test pipes. It is a little raspy but sounds great when combined with a catback. it also adds a little sound if your on a budget or don't want to loud.

Con: Can be a bitch to install.

I forgot about that part, the demon bolt is a real PIA to get off, in my case the exhaust manifold bolt was overtorqued from factory. Nissan did not want to make it easy to drop out the Cats.

1ceasar180 03-03-2011 01:24 AM

Surewin TP, Surewin Y-pipe, Top Speed CBE. Good power with the TP if you can get over the rasp/tin sound at certain rpm's. Some fumes while stopped idling get in. Trying to decide if I want to put the cats back on. Hmm.

Jordo! 03-03-2011 05:25 AM

I'm switching to resonated TP's soon. The rasp ~2.5K is annoying.

Sounds like a robot farting.

I'd still try to get a set that is resonated. I think they tend to rasp too.

The ART pipes are basically resonated, so they don't do that.

Dembflyr 03-03-2011 02:50 PM

I had Berk HFC's and swapped them out for CNT RTP's. I havent driven the car very much since the swap but what I can say is that the sound barely changed. No rasp, maybe a touch louder and I did notice a slight fuel smell.

This will be my exact setup after Saturday, I have bought a single Vibrant HFC and will be chopping my Y pipe at the mid pipe flange and adding it in there, see how she goes and sounds.

1ceasar180 03-03-2011 03:40 PM

I took off the TP's and put the cats back on today. I'm glad I did. The exhaust note is perfect now. No rasp or rattle sounds. No fume smell. Sounds exotic I must say. A little quieter of course but the exhaust note is the same as with the TP's.

Kastley85891 03-03-2011 03:43 PM

How much more noisy was it on your setup?

Did you notice a power loss going back to stock cats? any gains in TRQ with stockers

1ceasar180 03-03-2011 04:15 PM

Quite a bit. I liked how loud the tone was, I just couldn't handle the loud rasp/tin sound that went along with it. I could hear it coming from under the car as well as out the back. Some people don't mind it though. And I had to keep my better half happy also if you know what I mean.

red6spd 03-03-2011 04:34 PM

I gots F.I Non-Resonated Test Pipes. I love them, makes the car sound so unique with the FI Non-Resonated CBE. Yea I wish the rasp was gone but hay, if thats what she sounds like breathing free then so be it.

1ceasar180 03-03-2011 04:39 PM

I have the Top Speed CBE. A different brand may not be as bad. I love the note it has though.

SPOHN 03-03-2011 07:39 PM

I guess I'm alot different. I love loudness, rasp, and smell of fumes. Like being at a race track. I get off on this. Guess I'll be the blacksheep.

CATCHINZZZS 03-03-2011 08:51 PM

Ive got the Invidias definitly loud alittle rasp but got use to it.Love the sound takin off, maybe power gains but havent noticed .Since Im still breakin her in keepin my revs low.She only has about 900 miles LOL...

Pros: 15whp on my Nismo Catback

Cons: Rasp at 2500rpms ~ and up top. Mild fumes.

Going back to stock cats myself, already made up my mind.

Yeah I went back to stock cats today. I really didn't want to because of the power gains but I didn't like taking off next to cars and hearing the rattling rasp. Live and learn. I'm just glad I didn't spend $200 on them. Still sounds great with the y-pipe and Top Speed CBE. Especially from 4k and up.

top speed test pipes

I like the performance difference they made, the car feels. Smoother -less heavy. I got them from deluboz.com I payed 127 shipped, I think its worth it.

Raspy with stock exhaust.

jadeb0x 03-05-2011 11:27 AM

i have MXP resonated test pipes and MXP cat back exhaust. love the sound, the rasp that it has comes on around 4k, so not annoying for daily driving.

hate the carbon that comes out, i need a tune...

my review and video... MXP Full Exhaust on Nissan 370Z | Jade Motorsports

red6spd 03-05-2011 08:44 PM

Some of you guys took your test pipes off and put the restrictive heavy stock cats back on????? STOP!!!!!!!!! The rasp is not that bad and the only time I smell the fumes is when I stop at a light.

Kastley85891 03-05-2011 08:46 PM

I am waiting on my next set - I just posted a set for sale from my buddys G

One_Quick_Z 03-05-2011 09:12 PM

The rasp from the setup you have may not be that bad. When I say couldn't handle the rasp I mean it was overpowering. Loud! Over the exhaust loud in he car. It started about 3,200 went away for a sec then came back. Under full acceleration it was there the entire time. When it shifted at 7,500 it was there. Cruising it was fine, but anytime I started to accelerate it came back. I could hear it under the floorboard where the pipes are and out the back. Only time I had fumes was like you said, at a stoplight or something. I want to try Berk HFC or Kinetix. Anybody have a suggestion on which of those?

I think thats' due to the extended bung is not long enough.

BLM 03-06-2011 02:20 PM

Even with an extended bung you're likely to get a CEL. Guys are getting them with HFC's so a straight pipe would seemingly be even more likely to throw a code.

Kastley85891 03-06-2011 02:53 PM

Thinks it luck of the draw TBH, I have never had a non stock CAT related CEL and have run many many types

SPOHN 03-06-2011 05:25 PM

I like how my GTM TP have an extended bung that bends 90 degrees back away from the flow of the exhaust.

This is true.

I had to put O2 sims on my last set of test pipes with the same style O2 bung.

I did those on my 350. Worked great.

'10Anamoly 03-07-2011 08:37 AM

Got a set of ERZ cats instead of putting the stockers on. Seems like a good middleground for performance and rasp control.

jadeb0x 03-07-2011 08:39 AM

http://www.jadecrew.com/wp-content/g.../hrpic-416.jpg

just an image of the MXP resonated test pipes on my car, the O2 sensors are somewhat extended further i think.

i have a CEL / SES light come on every now and then. but for the majority of the time, it has been off.

not too much talk about MXP in comparison to Berk and the others...
