Default O2 sensors with Berk HFCs

I'm getting Berk HFCs installed at a shop soon, and the guy asked me if they will need to extend the O2 sensors. I told him I hadn't heard anything to that effect, everything should just snap right in. Am I right on this?

Extending O2 sensors basically reduces the chance of getting a check engine light (CEL) by moving the sensor further away from the exhaust stream (I think). More for test pipes than HFCs.

I think getting CEL on HFCs is fairly rare. I've got 10k mi on Berk HFCs without issue.

That being said, getting extenders probably doesn't hurt.

I may be wrong but I THINK that the only CEL issues were with the very first release of Berk HFC's. The construction is such that the bung is already longer than normal to expose the O2 sensor to less exhaust gases. It's on my list of mods...

The stock Berk configuration is already extended and works fine. No issues on mine after 9000K.

Wow! That's a lot of miles!

I've had no problem with mine either, and hopefully your stock O2 sensors come out clean. One of mine had the threads destroyed during removal.

9000k = 9000 kilometres

I hear the US is inching towards the metric system....

You should use 9000km otherwise the k has no context! I was born and raised on the metric system BTW

I was born on the imperial system but raised on the metric system.... lol

It is quite acceptable and most common for people to refer to distance as "k".

As in, "I drove 30k last night looking for an all-night metric gas station"

...but yes, 30km would be the correct vernacular.

PS: If you were to construe that k = 1000 (9000 thousand) you would be wrong because small letter k does not mean 1000. Large letter K = 1000. As in "m" = milli and "M" = Mega. mA = milliAmps...
....but I get your point. Don't make metric slang comments to the imperialists.

I wish the US would make up it's mind about what system it wants to be on. As it stands right now you buy milk by the gallon, soda by the liter, I tell my parents it was 20 degrees and they think it must have been a nice day. Plus division by 12, and 16 is a PITA.

Anything scientific in the US has been on the metric system for 20 years or more. They should do what the UK did and keep the speed signs in miles but convert everything else.

kilometers per hour >>> miles per hour.

saying " yo bro I went 200 kilometers per hour" beats "yo bro I went 120 miles per hour"

200 being a bigger number and all.
