Intake question
Ok let me be honest here, I know nothing about intakes only what I have seen on the forums. I don't think I am brave enough to attempt any work on my Z unless its totally simple.
Currently my 2010 ZR is a cruiser, I will never track it. I just want a small modification that will set me apart from a stock Z. I am looking at either of the below intakes cost not a huge issue but want to stay reasonable. -stillen's gen 3 intake or STILLEN Generation 2 Long Tube Most likely have a shop install either one but need some opinions on the following; 1-between the 2 intakes which if at all of the 2 will have the lowest addition noise? top down is loud enough looking for the lest amount of added noise. 2-easy of install and maintance if needed? if I feel brave enough to attempt. 3-and bang for the buck..have a rough idea of part cost (CND$), no idea of shop cost to install yet. 4-anything else I would need to know that may add additional cost. Any advise is appreciated.... Last edited by TripleBlkZ; 02-13-2011 at 02:41 PM. |

gen 3, you'll have to remove your front bumper, gen 2 all you have to do is remove the stock air box.. very easy. gen 3 is the way to go if u want the most power gains.

gen 2 would be easier but gen 3 would be more ideal
if you are going to pay to have it done id def go with the 3rd. but the best option is to find a buddy that can help enjoy some brews and learn something about your car

Looking for the least amount of noise. I'm looking for the most amount of noise.
Gen 3 intake FTW. There would be some noise, but it's not bad.

thanks for the responces all, yeah I don't want a lot more noice but from what Ihave seen you don't really see a difference in noise untill ~5500 or so and I can live with that....now to find someone here that will do a decent job lol...
The G2 I would have attempted but G3 with the cutting and removal of bumper I dont mind paying for it... Also on a different thread in here someone said you really don't have any maintance on the filters for a long time like 50,000 miles...is this true if it's a daily driver? |

No that's not true. I saw that to. 50,000 miles. That's crazy. Maybe 15,000 at most. But I do mine every other oil change. That's just how I am. Very meticulous!

you should consider the k&n drop ins with the hps post maf tubes. small Inc in noise, easy install, little over 200 for parts, and good power gains. best of all u can install yourself in a couple hours. I switched from the k&n typhoons for this setup and love it.

K&N's look like a good buy, still leaning towards the STILLEN Generation 2 they look great and very accessible...anyone have feedback on these for noise and power gain? yes I have look though the forums but finding most posts about the G3's and the G2's post are a year++ old....

I'll second the K&N and HPS - I have the drop-ins and plan to add the HPS.

Curse you guys...lol jk..I am really now leaning towards the K&N and HPS more and more I read about them it sounds more like what I was going after when I posted this....+1
Last question is installing them, looks really straight forward...for someone that doesn't really do this type of stuff would you say this is pretty easy to install? Last edited by TripleBlkZ; 02-14-2011 at 12:50 AM. |
