Cheap Y pipe

Ran many pipes in my time :icon17:

I have used this piece and TBH, it fits very well and on my stock Z def made a difference.

Its dead cheap and is actually pretty good quality for the $$ (actually better then a Y I ran at over 2X the cost)

Anyways, some one may be looking for a cheap mod and this sure fits the bill.

I have no assoiciation to the seller so purely an FYI.

Nissan 370Z Z34 09 10 11 G37 08+ Exhaust Y-Pipe Y Pipe - eBay (item 330508965114 end time Jan-14-11 18:09:04 PST)

Cheers

Is the diameter any bigger than stock? It looks small from the pics and there are no specs on the listing.....

Kastley85891 01-08-2011 12:58 PM

3 in to dual 2.5

ddvette9 01-08-2011 01:32 PM

I have this y-pipe and it is very nice and is very loud

fairladyZ34 01-08-2011 06:38 PM

hmm... says it fits a g37 too... ive been thinking about picking up a y-pipe to complete my system

edit: How was the fitment?

Kastley85891 01-08-2011 06:44 PM

Fits the best of all the pipes I tried.

Check out my ART MD thread, pics in there are of this pipe mated up.

All Y pipes fit your car, Even if its made for 350z/G35 DE.

christian370z 01-08-2011 07:23 PM

While I am happy with my Tanabe Y pipe and still think it has the best collector, it is amazing how cheap the OBX and the unbranded Y pipe you posted are! $40 is an absolute no brainer, the OEM y pipe is extremely restrictive.

Yep:)

FYI, DE owners buy our stock Y pipe and they get good gains, I saw one dyno with 10 HP gains just from swamping stock DE Y pipe to VHR Y pipe...

Its funny how we hate our Y pipe while DE owners love our Y pipes...

jaycz 01-09-2011 11:33 AM

$80 shipped. I'll give it a try for that price.

Kastley85891 01-09-2011 11:43 AM

^nice. Please report back

CBRich 01-09-2011 01:08 PM

For that price it's hard NOT to at least give it a shot.

TypeOne 01-09-2011 01:45 PM

Just bought it.

Thanks for the link!!

I hope this will give me a little more of a growl w/ the new muffler delete pipes I had made.

Kastley85891 01-09-2011 01:46 PM

NP Glad - post up when you get it installed and running.

Kastley85891 01-09-2011 02:44 PM

lol 4 sold on Jan 9th....

jmlenz 01-09-2011 04:52 PM

doest this y pipe alone make the OEM exhaust much louder?

It won't increase the volume much, but it noticeably changes the tone. The exhaust sounds deeper with a little less rasp but obviously, the largest advantage is that it can flow much more exhaust and be less restrictive than the puny OEM Y pipe.

TypeOne 01-09-2011 05:58 PM

I'm hoping it will give me a little more of a growl with my muffler delete pipes...

I'll post a DIY as well as a before and after sound comparison.

:-D

:iagree: And lose power too:shakes head:

Svre46 01-09-2011 09:23 PM

I snagged one...might as well try it out and see.

TypeOne 01-09-2011 11:33 PM

Actually... it's not really loud.

It's hard to fathom, however you'd be surprised as to how restrictive and acoustically suppressing the factory exhaust is. Removing the muffler really just adds a deeper tone to it.

Israeli_Z 01-10-2011 04:55 AM

any thoughts on this Megan Racing Y Pipe? Megan Racing. I still don't understand why the higher end Y pipes have a dual 2.3" when stock is 2.5"?

nurseryboy 01-10-2011 12:27 PM

I bought that same exact y-pipe from that eBay seller about a month ago. Installed it about a week ago along with ERZ cats (still stock muffler). Fitment wasn't bad, but not as perfect as I would have liked. (Loose fitted, things were off about 1/2".) Everything bolted up and came together though. They did send the wrong gasket with the y-pipe, so I had to reuse the OEM one.

Since both were put on at the same time, I can't say for sure how the y-pipe alone changed things, but with them both, there's definitely a HP increase and the sound is a little louder, but a similar sounding to stock. On cold start, there seems to be a little rasp. Since it's relatively new, I don't know if that'll go away or not. Once it has warmed up, at idle, it sounds exactly the same as stock. WOT, though, it's definitely louder. I'm getting my car UpRev tuned tomorrow, so I should be able to get a dyno read of what these did for the car.

TypeOne 01-10-2011 09:51 PM

Here is a crappy video I made of my muffler delete pipes...

I'll hope another one once the Y pipe is on.

I installed one of these obx style Y-pipes along with test pipes over the weekend (waiting on my CBE to arrive).. Sounds like total dog poop! It's almost comical when you hear just how horrific it sounds when hooked up to the stock cat back.

Just an FYI :)

intresting Screen name....do you own both?!

5.0370z 01-12-2011 04:34 PM

I don't have mustangs anymore. I owned a variety of fox body mustangs over the years.

Now it's time for a new type of toy :)

This surprises me, interested to hear it, any pics or video of the set up.
The videos below were with OBX Y and CNT test pipes, it was not so bad IMO.
Interested to know whats going on with yours.;)

BTW - which CBE did you snag?

Kastley85891 01-12-2011 05:13 PM

^ I would for the cost, it worked pretty well for me with a set of drop ins...

I am prolly going to the local meet on the 22nd (check out TEXAS area thread) if you wanna check it out.

tonybui 01-12-2011 06:02 PM

Katsley, is that stock with just y-pipe?

Kastley85891 01-12-2011 06:04 PM

Videos above are Y (OBX) pipe with TP's

TypeOne 01-14-2011 12:11 PM

Just so you guys know, I called to track my package and they said it was shipped by Megan Racing.

Could it be that we bought Megan racing Y pipes for $80 shipped?

LOL

Kastley85891 01-14-2011 12:51 PM

Interesting... mine was blank packaging so see what gives I guess

TypeOne 01-14-2011 01:52 PM

Could be unbranded parts... still a way for Megan to make money when no one with expensive cars buys their cheap parts. $80 for a y pipe is crazy cheap...

My oil change costs more than that. lol

jaycz 01-14-2011 06:35 PM

My Y pipe arrived today. For $80 smacks, I'm not complaining at all. Came with gaskets and bolts. Looks like TIG welding also. The box was labled M2Performance. Will see how she bolts up. When I can afford it, I will finsh it up with a Tanabe CBE. Thanks again for the heads up.:tiphat:
