I highly doubt it would be any worse. The TPs are all the same basic design unless you are going with resonated pipes. The CEL issue should not be one since the TPs from surewin appear to have the extended bungs. It seems with any TP it’s a case to case basis on the CEL but form what I hear using steel wool with the extended O2 bung more often than not does not yield a CEL. I would say that you would be perfectly safe with the cheaper ones. I do not personally have the surewin test pipes so I cannot comment on quality. I did compare the Megan pipe to my surewin. They look identical except the Megan has a small little support bracket welded from each pipe where it makes the Y.

I just got a set of the cheapo surewins and will report back, will be running them with the TS CBE

Can I ask what killer deal you found?

fairladyZ34 02-28-2011 09:10 PM

I offered to buy my friends JIC ypipe from him but he doesnt wanna sell it yet because he doesnt know if he needs it :shakes head:

my next question is since all y-pipes fit even the 350z ones does anyone have any comment on this 350z y-pipe from surewinproducts?

Will the design of this y-pipe fit? and will it change the tone at all because of the different design? Plus its only 60 bucks shipped

brian0128 03-06-2011 07:40 PM

If your car is otherwise stock will you notice any difference?

Kastley85891 03-06-2011 07:50 PM

Yes you will, and mine is for sale in classifieds... lol ;-)

tonybui 05-05-2011 05:15 PM

Kastley85891 05-05-2011 05:48 PM

RockStarKick 05-05-2011 06:51 PM

:iagree: the ebay y-pipe is good quality and fits like a glove... When you see the stock one you will be happy you switched..

tonybui 05-05-2011 08:13 PM

Don't get me wrong, I will get it but damn, price went up :(

Haha, no doubt about that! Just installed mine this past weekend.

samb03 06-07-2011 01:52 PM

I got me some tp's to go with my TS CBE and Y pipe that I got on off the classifieds. Hope it performs well. I think this is a pretty tried and true formula.

Astrosfan 06-22-2011 09:10 AM

is thei the one everyone got? Nissan 370Z Z34 09 10 11 G37 08+ Exhaust Y-Pipe Y Pipe | eBay

My car just got out of the shop from a $14k accident (got rearended). they replaced the exhaust but not the y pipe(the heat shields are bent).. I have some berk HFC and was considering picking this up and having my buddy install both at the same time.

They had another one here, Nissan 370Z G37 08+ VQ37 2drs Exhaust Y-Pipe Downpipe | eBay

they appear to be the same.

Which one?

thanks!

jaycz 06-22-2011 09:54 AM

The Surewinproducts is the supplier of the Y pipe of this thread. I'm sure that both links you listed are the same Y pipe.

RekeHavoc 06-22-2011 01:25 PM

I purchased the 1st one that you posted above and have been very happy with it in terms of fit, finish, and performance.

cheshirecat 06-22-2011 01:54 PM

Just ordered it from Surewinproducts. Hoping it lives up to the hype.

You are getting rid of yours already, may I ask why?

Vbp6US 02-28-2012 11:11 PM

Well guys, did it live up to the hype? Any regrets? Curious to hear input after almost a year.

nurseryboy 02-28-2012 11:55 PM

I've had mine for nearly a year and it's been great. No issues at all. I installed it at the same time as some HFC's, and I'm very happy with the combination. Definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Huck 02-29-2012 12:23 AM

So forgive me for asking a question that has probably already been answered, I just read this whole thing and I'm falling asleep so I didn't absorb it all completely. If I were to buy this y pipe would it fit my otherwise stock exhaust? And I just noticed it went up to $130, they must have realized that was a serious bargain...

I made djsekz my bitch.

nurseryboy 02-29-2012 09:18 AM

Mine did (yes, I had the HFC's too, but they're the same dimensions as the stock cats). I can't say that a year later they're making them exactly the same, but I'd imagine they are, and if so, everything should fit up fine with stock exhaust.

corbin09 02-29-2012 10:11 AM

I bought a set of cheapo test pipes and they cracked at the O2 bung. I had a Topspeed Y pipe and it lasted for about a year until I switched to an H pipe setup.

Huck 02-29-2012 10:24 AM

And did anyone end up dynoing these things? What kind of gains are we looking at?

jaycz 02-29-2012 11:57 AM

Mine is still doing great. It's seen some weather and no rust at all. Flex boots are holding up well, no leaks. Mated to a Tanabe CBE, sound lovely.

ChipsWithDips 03-25-2012 11:27 PM

Looks like the current "buy it now" price for these is $120. I bid on one that had 120 buy it now, but a starting bid at $99. I placed the minimum bid of $99 and won the auction. Will see in a few days how it performs. :driving:

edub370 03-26-2012 08:45 AM

y-pipe + tp's on stock exhaust = great hp gains, but awful rasp

UNKNOWN_370 03-26-2012 02:56 PM

Megan Y-pipes are excellent quality and under $200 smacks.

KB2 03-26-2012 06:43 PM

anyone think the tanabe y-pipe justifies its high price tag?

i got the tanabe catback, and i love that thing! figured it makes sense to match em up..

edub370 03-26-2012 08:30 PM

one y-pipe to another will have such minimal differences that its neglegable.

MaDMaXX 03-26-2012 10:14 PM

Unless you're talking the MD XYZ pipe.

Actual proven gains and nicely built.

Was it proven gains over another aftermarket y pipe? Got a link?

MaDMaXX 03-26-2012 11:05 PM

Not handy, sorry, but the research into what makes the best y-pipe is on the MD page. It's clear just *looking* at the other designs, that they're not optimal.

SS_Firehawk 03-26-2012 11:18 PM

I have a Tanabe and put it with a XYZ pipe. I would have gotten the Tanabe Y pipe, but I wanted a cat. Motordyne Y pipe and Tanabe exhaust fit perfectly together.

slo 03-28-2012 11:17 AM

With all my previous cars and bikes, I have always been a high end parts type person. Always using brands like ARC, HKS, Tanabe, Volk, Work, etc. But for test pipes, I wasn't about to pay the premium prices for just 4 flanges and two short bent pipes.

So I went ahead and purchased the topspeed test pipes on ebay. Rest of exhaust is stock. Gotta say that overall I am happy, paid far less than other test pipes, fitment was perfect. Only hiccup was that it came with 10 sets of nuts/bolts and 4 of them were larger. Good for the holes in the new test pipes but too big for the factory flanges to connect to.

Had to find a couple of extra nuts/bolts around the shop to replace them with.

WOT sounds great.... sound very exotic. Cruising at constant speed is dead quiet exactly like stock. Slight easing throttle gets raspy at around 2k rpm's then goes away pretty quickly. If the rasp ends up bothering me more over time, I will have my guy weld in two resonators which will be done easily and for next to nothing.

EDIT - just an FYI, I contacted the seller, told him about the 4 nuts/bolts and he was very quick in responding that he would send out replacements free of charge. Response was so quick and professional that I told him nevermind since I used other nuts/bolts that were at the shop.

Here is the seller in case anyone wants to know, I have no affiliation with them except that I just installed their test pipe.

harman.khinda 03-29-2012 08:50 AM

what part of the exhaust would the resonators be welded to?

slo 03-29-2012 09:35 AM

For me, it would be the test pipes.

ChipsWithDips 03-29-2012 05:47 PM

I just posted a review of my ebay pipe.
