CAI are fine
I drove to my Nissan dealership 40 miles from home yesterday, only to find the were closed for Xmas eve. I now had 1140 miles on my new short block and was down one quart of oil. I then drove to an auto parts store to find they do not carry ester oil. Then went to the Infiniti dealer only to find they had moved, and the new used Toyota dealership was too lazy to take down Infiniti awning. I found the new Infiniti dealership across the freeway, and was pleasantly surprised to find the parts guy remembered me, and my old 300 ZXtt from a former Datsun dealership. We talked about old friends etc.
Here is the meat and potatoes of why I write this: The Infiniti dealership was selling Stillen CBE and Stillen Cold air intakes, and other Stillen parts, for the G37. People often wonder what will void a warranty. Apparently CAI are fine; therefore I will be getting a set come February when my Stillen bucks (coupons from December) become valuable. By the end of the day, I had my 1200 miles of break in and could now listen to my new CBE wind up past 4000 rpm's. I am loving it. Seems quieter on the freeway and simply puts a smile on my face when I drive. The new Hotchkis sways on middle rear setting may be fine, although it may very well be driver error, the rear end is much stiffer and have had minor hops or slips that may be due to the faster responsiveness of the front end (maybe oversteer?). I will get used to it or adjust them. To one and all have a wonderful Christmas.

+1. Just like any mod on any car...warranty depends on the dealership. Better buy some donuts for the Service Manager! That's what I did and my GTR is still under warranty lol...

Like nitrouz said, it all depends on the dealership. That being said, after market parts wont cause a issue with the warrenty, unless they are the reason that caused a problem.

Who cares about a dealership? It's what Nissan corporate says. That dealership submits their warranty work to Nissan to get reimbursed for it. If Nissan says "no", that's all that matters. An engine is definitely not a dealership-level item. It goes all the way to corporate.
Check your warranty. It says nothing about Bubba's Autoplex. It says "Nissan". A CAI will still void most of your driveline warranty. I can make an argument for a CAI destroying ANYTHING in the driveline. Valves? Lean mixture. Clutch? Extra power. Transmission? Extra power. Rear-end? Same thing. Main-bearings? Reduced filtration of non OEM air-filter allowed more grit in (actually, K&N does, which is why I won't run those type filters). Etc. But the whole point is, you voided the warranty contract and so they don't have to explain it. Last edited by ImportConvert; 12-25-2010 at 06:45 PM. |

I have seen it being an issue with an engine, but at the same time the filter had not been cleaned in 40k miles. On the topic of warranty. Stillen works closely with many dealerships to help sell their parts. Does Nissan warranty any or recommend it? No, it is just another part the parts division sells to make a profit.

The amount of extra crap let through, even if accurate, is negligible in the grand scheme of things anyways, provided you don't live in a desert environment or something. |
