AAM Competition S-Line Short Tail Axle-Back Exhaust

You feel no loss in torque in my opinion. UpRev is not necessary with this mod. Highway runs are incredible with these short tails.

Default Short Tails for New 2013 370 Z in Pennsylvania - Street Legal ???

Hi Everyone,
Love the sound clips for these short tail & on a tight budget. I'm just wondering :

1. The people running this on there car - good or bad idea ?
2. Anybody notice any performance loss or problems with loss of back pressure ?
3. Anybody from Pennsylvania - will it pass a Pa State Inspection ?

Thanks for any feedback - Bill Miller

2. Anybody notice any performance loss or problems with loss of back pressure ? Not noticeable.
3. Anybody from Pennsylvania - will it pass a Pa State Inspection ? YES. This doesn't effect the cats to set off emissions.

I just installed mine and I'm upset by the fact that the right side hangs down and sticks out farther than the left. .. I've pushed the tip onto the pipe as far as it will fit. The install is very simple so I'm positive I did everything right. .. Anyone else have this issue? Any way to adjust it without cutting the pipe shorter? I've emailed Paula at aam about it but it's Sunday so I have to wait until tomorrow to hear back.

Can anyone describe a comparison as to how loud the drone is on these things?

There you go..

In depth car video.

I made it to show people how it sounds in the car and outside the car.

Drone is there but you get used to it.

Lol, I commented on some of your videos...
But the thing is, sometimes camera audio downplays actual real life sound.
For example, the drone sounds low in the video, but in person it might sound much louder.
My question is, how loud is the drone in person? does it sound like a plane flying over you? or is it something you can tune out with the radio on volume 10? maybe less or more?

Kind to hate bringing back an OLD thread, but...

I put these short tails on my Z about two weeks after buying the car, which it only had like 12 miles on it when I got it, maybe 200 miles when I installed the short tails. As of today, just a few miles shy of hitting 1k.

The only major drawback I have with these is the fact that at certain rpms, there's one or two interior panels that rattle a little. That's it.

They are loud inside the car at the two drone rpms (around 2k and 4k), but not really loud outside. They're nothing like a fart can on a Civic or a stock Mustang or Vette under WOT. They're just loud enough to sound good and let you know something has been done to the car.

At cruising speeds, they're almost silent. Though under acceleration at cruising speeds (60-80 mph), it can get a bit loud inside.

At idle with an otherwise bone stock exhaust (non-Nismo), it has a nice loping to it. I've had friends ask me if I've cammed the motor. I think this is due to the Y-pipe. I've heard videos of the short tails on Z's with an H or X-pipe, and they don't have that loping.

When I installed them (my brother helped), the right pipe sat higher than the left. We ended up using two or three of the included spacers on the hanger bracket. Which reminds me, we didn't remove the heat shield on the charcoal canister either, just bent it out of the way while still covering/protecting the hoses. It's very light, soft metal and bends extremely easy by hand.

With the left pipe, it was about an inch too long no matter what we did. So in the end, we broke out the good ole' hacksaw and lopped off an inch of the pipe.

Lastly, I honestly did not, and still do not notice any loss of low end torque. I don't know where all of these people are coming up saying "oh I lost a bunch of low end torque, no back pressure, blah, blah, blah...". It's simply not true.

Through the past couple of months, my brother and I have swapped cars (he has a '16 Sport), when we drive somewhere just for the heck of it. I drive his car the same exact way as I drive mine, and there's absolutely no difference at all between the two, other than the fact mine sounds better, and definitely sounds better inside than the piped-in exhaust sound through his Bose system.

Do you mean that the Bose system is programmed to emulate an exhaust sound on start up?

From what I gather, it "enhances the natural sounds of the engine", which leads me to believe it has some sort of microphones that pick up on the engine or exhaust, then pipes in through the Bose stereo. So in a sense, it's not an emulated or synthesized sound, but it doesn't exactly sound natural either, and it certainly doesn't sound anything near that of a real exhaust system.

Also, there's no way of turning it off or bypassing it, unless you replace the factory head unit.
