Test pipes
I am new to all this. I keep hearing about test pipes. Are they part of the exhaust system or is it something seperate? I am waiting for my GT HAUS exhaust. What would test pipes do? Please help!!!!!!!
|
They replace the Catalytic converters, several companies make them.

would i still have to get the complete exhaust system? what exactly do test pipes do?
|
The OEM cats creating a restriction, and slow down exhaust pulses.
Replacing them with either higher flowing cats or completely unrestricted pipes (i.e. test pipes) will improve exhaust flow, resulting in more power. they will improve power with the OEM exhaust and should also bolt up to any aftermarket exhaust, unless it includes test pipes or high flow cats. Both cats and test pipes are deleted with headers. |
I'm assuming it will make acceleration even more louder?

You can probably find sound clips in the big exhaust thread. |
HFC's will allow more flow too correct? how are HFC's different from test pipes? or are they the same pretty much?

The difference is probably about 2 - 3% potnetial gain or about 4-6 whp between them. Possibly 1-2 whp more, but definitely not less. The major difference is cost; HFC's tend to be quite a bit more expensive that TP's. Add more to the cost if you get resonated ones. HFC's are more environment friendly, so that's plus (if that matters to you). Both may result in CEL's (search for details why) and neither is a guarantee of passing an emissions test (not that this is an issue in FL). |

Stillen for one.
|
OEM exhaust manifolds on the 370Z are already headers with true individual primaries, no need to replace with Stillen. Longtube headers are the only valuable upgrade in that area.
