Test pipes on stock exhaust?

Forgive me if this is a repost. I did some searching on YouTube and the forum for videos, but couldn't find any. Has anyone installed test pipes with the stock exhaust yet? I was curious how it sounded.

hello, on this side ... i actually had my long tubes on my car with the stock cat-back and it seriously sound awesome in the higher rpm's!!

Hmm doesn't sound like a bad idea.
I used to have an ap1 in which i deleted
the cat and resonator and kept the original exhaust.
Brang out a better stock tone, although i began hearing
a little rasp in mid section of the car during high revolutions.
Does anyone have any input on this with 370's?

All TP's I ran with stock exhuast sounded the same.
Great when revving, great at redline, a lot louder then stock, rattle at decel around 2800 (hiss).
Power wise, ok up top, faster revving etc, lower TRQ below 3500 rpm.

Heres mine with some CNT TP's

You should have looked a bit harder on youtube ;).

Here's my dyno vid, all stock except test pipes

Nice. Thanks, fellas. Appreciate the words. I'll likely get a pair of resonated TPs as my first true bolt-on.

did you dyno before and after? what is the delta

AlphaSnacks 12-03-2010 04:57 PM

Without going into what the car actually dynoed. He told me the test pipes gained him a little over 10WHP. Damn solid gains with no tune.

pokeyl 12-03-2010 11:16 PM

That is what I'm looking for, 10 from a test pipe or HFC's, 10 from an intake , 10 from M370, and 5 to 10 from a tune.

AlphaSnacks 12-04-2010 01:31 AM

Yeah, as far as power-to-dollar, you'll get the best gains from Test Pipes + Intake + Tune combo.

Even when my 350Z was made nearly bone stock (had just a plenum spacer), the ECU tune still made it a great ride. When I removed the tune, the car simply felt like a dinosaur.

Friendly bump. Would still like to see more videos. :)
