mufflers only???
My GF wants more sound from her car, she isnt a go fast nut so making more power isnt her top priority, she just wants a good sound. Do y'all have any suggestion for just mufflers? Im not looking to spend lots of $$$

I don't know that anyone makes just a muffler. You could have a exhaust shop weld up a set of muffler delete pipes.
Check your local laws about doing this. Some areas frown on it. If you don't care about destroying the stock muffler, you could use the inlets and the tips from it. Then you would just have to have a short pipe welded in the middle. This way it would still look stock. Just a guess but I would figure about $200 for a shop to do this using the stock muffler. There are a few videos on here where guys have done a delete and it sound pretty good. If you don't want to destroy the stock one there are always people selling theirs on here. |
Honestly, save some money and just go the exhaust-washer route. Some hate it but if it's just sound you want... go ahead and do that.

Not sure what the "exhaust washer route" is? She wants sound but nothing that is obnoxious and nothing that sounds like a ricer civic. Im not going to lie, i know nothing about these cars, if it had a big block chevy or a diesel in it then i would know what to do, but these little motors are new to me, badass but new.

Basically, you unbolt the muffler section and slip on some washers between the flanges creating a leak. A lot of guys here are doing it and it actually sounds pretty good. Obviously volume is going to depend on how many washers you use. Kind of ghetto, but if you like the way it sounds then it ends up being a $1-2 mod. :icon17:

If you just want some sound it will only take you about a half hour to try out the washer route. If she doesn't like it then nothing lost, nothing gained.

cheap is relative
370z items - Get great deals on Exhausts Headers Manifolds DP, Engine Parts Pulleys Shifters items on eBay Stores! that exhaust is cheap comparatively. |
But you get what you pay for. I'd much rather do the washer mod than spend money on a cheap exhaust that probably won't last the life of the car.

If your lady wants more exhaust noise and you remove the muffler, be ready for some significant exhaust drone in the cabin. Sounds great but might give you a headache.
Best bet for more sound on a budget is some muffler deletes to the stock tips PLUS some side branch resonators at 28" per side. That way you have the sound and none of the drone, plus a small performance kick. I paid $300 for that setup previously WITH new magnaflows so you can get it done affordably. To test the sound, try the washer mod. |
Muffler delete is going to be pretty loud, though.
