Nismo/Stock mid-pipe

Default Nismo/Stock mid-pipe

Has anyone tried to bolt up a nismo muffler section to the stock mid-pipe? From the looks of it, it seems like it'd work. My reason for asking is because if I got a nismo exhaust, Ive still got that crappy, skinny h-pipe, but... if the nismo muffler bolts to the stock mid-pipe, an aftermarket y-pipe can be used and I'd be willing to bet it'd sound awesome and the gains would be decent. Any insight?

I am also very curious because it looks like the midpipe connections on the stock and Nismo muffler are visually identical.
