I briefly owned a 13 2.0T before realizing that it was a seriously unrefined pos. That 4 banger did not sound good at all.

This thread is almost 4 years old and the OP hasn't logged back on in almost 3 years... For some odd reason I'm really doubting you'll get an answer..

My bad.

One thing that I do miss about the Genesis is that the online community seemed more alive. I used go to myg37 forums but it's a ghost town. This forum is far better when it comes to technical info/resources.

Dude. Here in Hawaii we are getting over run by Genesis Coupes which are mostly all 2.0t's (They don't realize the 3.8 is actually faster lol) everywhere. We usually have pretty good turn out here at car shows for VQ powered cars. 27 Genesis Coupes were at the Stance Nation meet......the island is becoming overpopulated with them but most of all, I'm tired of them thinking they can beat me in a race.... so irritating....

The reason mostly everyone gets the 2.0T is because it's a whole lot easier to make faster. Everyone knows that stock vs stock the 3.8 is faster.

Edit: Some 2.0s actually are fast, but 10-12 model internals are junk, 350whp is already pushing it. The 13 2.0s are kind of quick. I haven't driven the 13 3.8, but the 10-12 2.0 and 3.8 models are flat out slow.

It is more active, but with that being said it is not better. It is rather immature.

I'd be more concerned about the heat from the exhaust around parts that weren't intended to be in the exhaust stream. If I were seriously considering this, I'd either buy a used set of short tails or have a buddy with a welder cut open my muffler, weld some pipe between the inlets and outlets bypassing any baffles, and seal it back up.

even though i thought the washer mod was just stupid i was bored one day (and anxiously waiting on my AAM shorttails) so i threw some washers in there and yes i agree thats how the stock exhaust should have sounded just not as muffled. luckily my shortials came about two days later and HOLY CRAP they sound so good. I highly suggest AAM shortails as the way to go if you want a louder exhaust without spending 1200 all at once. AAM also makes an h pipe that is similar to the nismo exhaust that you can bolt up to the shorttails at a later time

OMGERD... it just dawned to me about what this "washer mod" phenomenon is all about. Double-yew-tee-eff.

hes right, opening the exhaust no more than two millimeters will cause the exhaust to become three times as hot, therefore melting right through your multiple heat shields you have down there and exploding your gas tank while your driving past a crowd of people at a mall on a friday night.

im not for the washer mod at all its rice as crap and should not be a permanent "mod" (i dont even want to call it that) but i dont know what "stream" you are talking about and also look under your car and notice all the heat shields that are there. your exhaust is going to get hot and give off heat weather you have a leak or not, having a leak isnt going to burn anything up or make the exhaust any hotter than it would be without a leak theres really nothing to worry about except getting water up in your exhaust when you go through a car wash.

yea i did put some washers on a couple days before my AAM exhaust got to me just to see what it sounded like and suprisingly didnt sound too bad, but at the same time i was thinking god people actually do this to their z as a permanent fix to the exhasut being dull and quiet. its really just dumb lol

Yeah, that's exactly what I said, Captain Hyperbole. I'm more concerned with the softer stuff under the car, like rubber bushings and wires. The exhaust gas itself is much hotter than the pipe, and now it's coming out in all directions. The point where the leak is created is fairly close to the diff bushings and what looks like the wires to the wheel speed sensors for the ABS system. The heat shield is under where the muffler is located, and you've created a leak in front of it. Nothing's going to break immediately, but the excess heat is not great over the long term.
