Hey guys, wanted to run something by you.
I was just getting around to installing my HPS MAF Tubes this weekend and noticed that the stock corregated drivers side tube has a small tube protruding downward as well as one protuding out the side (toward the engine).. The HPS tube only has the small tube protruding out the side (toward the engine).
Is anyone elses like this? I have a 2011 touring coupe.
Any thoughts?

So the stock small tube that is directly on the bottom of the stock tube is connected to what looks like a small plastic baffle and stops there.?.? Is this new to 2011 Zs?
I guess that this chamber/baffle gets eliminated with the HPS install.?

I haven't installed mine yet, but that sounds like a resonator. The HPS tube will no longer use that.

None yet... But would probably agree it is some kind of resonator/air chamber.

Dan with We Sell Car Parts just sent me this. I believe it answers my questions. Thanks Dan!
Now my next question, why would there be a resonator on the drivers side and not the passenger side. Thoughts?

Yes, this was talked about way earlier in the thread. Its on all the models and years of the 370. its a resonator of some sort. No need to worry about it...

Just a heads up for those not interested in a black tube - HPS is now manufacturing these in blue as well.

Thanks!

I saw somewhere that with the tubes as well as the K&N filters our cars made 16 whp is that correct or on the high side that maybe one or two cars made? I'd much rather NOT take my front bumper off of my car. I know it's supposedly very easy, but I just don't want to do it, so i'm not going with the long tube intakes.

That number seems very high. Someone on here had the tubes with either the K&N or AFE Dry flow filters and I believe it was somewhere around 10 hp gain, which I feel is still on the high side. From what people have said, the combination of the tubes with filters would typically gain around 6 - 8 hp.
I think the main reason people get these is so they can avoid taking the bumper off, and for the gains you get, which are very close to CAI gains once other mods are added (exhaust...), they are so close that it doesn't warrant paying an additional $400 for the CAI...

Well if they ever produce them in RED, I'll swap mine out. Although I do love my HPS tubes, to me anyway, they don't add much to the engine bay appearance.

On a related note, I just got emailed my June(?) Mishimoto newsletter for some reason, and they have their own version of HPS/Cobb intake tubes.

Interesting, I wasn't aware there are other companies out there that offer tubes like these except for the old Cobb ones. I wonder if the fitment on that passenger side is better than the HPS tubes? I also find it interesting that the Mishimoto ones talk about heat resistance. I wonder if they actually do since the HPS ones apparently don't help with that...
