Not true. I'm not familiar with the afe, but filters like the K&N do add small amounts of gain. The concept the K&N is more airflow. More airflow=more HP. Last edited by TreeSemdyZee; 10-02-2010 at 02:02 PM. |

You might want to look at the dynos posted - the K&N does pretty good.

If you looking for a big gain on an intake you will need a long tube like the Stillen G3. The AFE drop ins are better then the stock filters and will flow even better if you take out the stock intake tubes and replace them with smooth tubes (like Cobb MAF Tubes).
I was one of the unlucky members that purchased the Takeda Short Ram intake to find out later it did nothing but cause heat soak and making my car run rich (Intake Temps +18-20F over Ambient). A good intake should be +3-10F over ambient temps. My modified intake with the stock box now produces the same intake temps as the Stillen G3 (+3-10F over ambient) but of course does not flow quite as well from 6000-7500rpm. But it is easy to maintenance and you can put this intake together for $180 - $190 (Cobb Tubes $125.00 + AFE Filters $60.00)! My Intake Setup (Cut the Takeda Tubes to fit stock box + AFE Drop Ins):

Cobb doesn't make those tubes anymore. The other option comes from HPS.
I like those tubes. I need to get off my a** and pick up a TIG welder so I can start making some custom stuff. I could probably sell a kit to upgrade the stock intake system for under $200.

COBB doesn't make these tubes anymore. You can find the blue ones around in some places, but the black ones are long gone.

I know this is a stupid question, but I am still a noob - about how often should I replace air filters? I know I should be checking them every couple thousand miles, but about when should I expect to change them out?
I'm going with afe when I need some new filters. I don't think there's enough of a power gain to justify tossing the old ones before they're spent in the name of performance. I'd love to stumble upon a set of black COBB tubes somewhere...

I'm coming up to 5000 miles and thinking about changing my air filter.
What's the difference between "Pro Dry S" and "Pro 5 R"? Do I need 1 filter or 2? Also in the description "Washable and reusable for multiple cleaning cycles". What is the proper method to clean?
