Nismo 370z exhaust question...
Does anyone happen to know if an axleback exhaust designed for the regular 370Z will fit a Nismo also? The reason I ask is because I'm considering replacing just the muffler section of my exhaust. I think Nissan tuned the exhaust on the Nismo right so I want to alter the design as little as possible... I'm not going FI, just intakes at the most and want to keep my low end torque... I'm just looking for a tad more growl from my baby =P
A simple reponse is preferred, yes or no... I dont care much for HFC or the like because I figure the piping diameter would not be a perfect match at the connecting points along the exhaust since most aftermarket exhaust parts are wider... also, I want to stay CARB legal. The Meisterschaft GTS will work as you can just replace the muffler section and keep the rest stock.

I thought of that particular exhaust actually because they do say the parts are interchangeable with the stock exhaust... but I think they were still refering to the regular 370Z's exhaust... What I really need to know is if the points where the mid-pipe meets the muffler the same on the Nismo as any other Z or if you would be able to install the stock muffler of a regular Z on a Nismo in other words?

The answer is yes.
The muffler shape on the NISMO 370Z is the same as it is on any other 370Z. I had a muffler replacement on my NISMO 370Z that was designed for a standard 370Z and it fit as expected. The only issue is there is a rubber connector for an exhaust hanger that's different. If you're looking at the car from back to front it's the one on the forward left side of the muffler. By the way, here is a diagram of the exhaust so that you have a visual.
And reading is fundamental. I totally misread what you were asking. It has been a long day for me already. The Acadamy is killing me with these classes on stuff that I already know in great detail. Sorry guys.......... Rob

I think there is some confusion here... yes I know the Nismo has an H-pipe and the regular Z has a Y-pipe but that is irrelevant to my inquiry because I am not looking for a cat-back exhaust, I am looking for an axle-back so all that matters is if the H-pipe and the Y-pipe (which splits back into 2 pipes) of both type of cars end up in the same place to meet with the muffler. So you're saying any 370z muffler should link up to the the rest of the Nismo's exhaust without any issues besides the one you pointed out correct? Is the problem that the muffler has a connecter to a hanger that's in another location on the Nismo? So the Nismo's muffler is suspended slightly differently then? What did you do to remedy the issue? |

Nissan 370Z Forum - daleks's Album: Meisterschaft Nismo 370Z Install - Picture I didn't notice the issue until I was in the process of removing the muffler-only section. It turns out the rubber spacer rotated and the hanger was rubbing against the metal portion of the bracket that held the rubber in place. That explained the rattling at high RPM. |

I am curious why are you asking this question. Are you trying to get more performance or better sound, or just the look?
Personally I do not think you will get any more performance from the Nismo Muffler. As discussed above the performance "Tuned Exhaust" is because of the Y versus H pipe. Troy |
