It's not the same because this "design" completely encloses the intake filter except for the duct work.

If you honestly think a slinky and a plastic can is better engineered than the intake designed specifically for this car by actual engineers, then by all means try it out.

The best part of that is the coffee can wrapped in cf.
The filter they use is garbage. The intake tube looks like cheap sewage ducting, and will not block out heat. You could easily build something like this by hacking up your airbox for the MAF holder, a coffee can, some 3M cf rolls with adhesive backing, a decent K&N filter, and shopping around for half decent ventilation ducting to the front fangs.
