HKS drop ins

Anyone have them and notice the loose fitment? Are they supposed to be like that?

I assume these are similar to the K&N drop in filters.

not exactly they are dry foam not oiled cotton and are non reusable

ive had them for about a year and a half in my car with no problems

because they are thinner than the OEM filters there is more room down in the air box but when slide that top down and clamp it down im pretty sure they dont move around

I actually think the HKS filters are cleanable - I know the green-element mushroom style filters are. They're just 3-layer foam so you can either wash them with water or blow them out with compressed air.

I didn't know HKS made these for the 370Z. Ordering some soon...

I almost ordered them but after MC showed me a few pictures (how they are not great at filtering dirt), I just stayed with OEM.

yeah ive taken the vaccum cleaner attachment and opened the filter housing up and went over the foam a few times.... so yeah in that sense its cleanable.. what i meant by cleanable was really reusable in the sense that like with a K&N you can actually clean it and reoil it to use the same filter like new... the HKS turn to a pale green after a while and start to get little debris in it that you cant really clean.. also the foam seems to get more porous and brittle feeling that seems non reverseable....

hks is reusable.
Its a little lose but i haven't had any complains from the G37 comunity which uses the same exact filter.

If you guys want an alternative:

AFE makes the pro-dry s filters also. They are also reusable and has OEM fitment.

here's some pictures and the link to our website if anyone wants to order

i myself still run them even though showed you that but i swap them out like every 5K miles or something.... i dont think they are bad for the car or anything but a few tests have shown that the foam isnt as good as the paper OEM as far as filtration... they of course breathe better as they are so much thinner...i wouldnt say they add any "real" HP... i just use them because i have HKS exhaust parts and just happen to like the brand....

so i wouldnt tell anyone not to get them and i would probably run them over an oiled filter... but honestly OEM is gonna be fine and if you want something more than that might as well get a short ram cone intake system

nismo japan used to make drop in dry filters for the 350z.. they were like 20% more free flowing but were expensive .. i paid like $100 for a set of paper filters with a nismo logo on them.. havent kept up with them to see if they have any for a 370

yeah i mean you can buy sheets of the foam from HKS and cut new squares but the actual set of filters you buy arnt reusable in the sense K&N's are.. ive been through 3 sets of the HKS in 2 years.. that foam gets real washed out looking and almost brownish
