For those of you who used steel wool to avoid CEL from your HFC, have you checked if the steel wool has rusted away? Thanks!

This is Houston! Hello, anyone there?
just need to know as I probably need to use the steel wool to totally Eliminate the CEL. FYI, if rusting is actually taking place, I will be using spark plug defouler to make everything "solid" (nonrusting). |

Do you already have test pipes or HFCs installed or are you nervous about a CEL before you buy them? If you already have them and are dealing with a CEL, it is best just to go with a defouler because steel wool will not be as effective or long term.

Can you add another defouler onto your current two? Note how long the o2 bung extends from the Berk HFC:
I was really surprised at how long it was when I installed my Berks but it works, also the hole letting exhaust into the bottom of the o2 bung is not the diameter of the bung, but much smaller which further adds to the defouling properties.

UPDATE:
It has been weeks with hundreds of miles and no CEL. It looks like the addition of 'spark plugs defouler' to the extension-bung did the trick. Now, if I can just find another use for these steel wool that I bought from Home Depot. I will update this thread if I do get the CEL. |

Hmm. The test pipes I purhased had extra long defoulers on there already -- easy 2x longer than the one pictured above. Hopefully I sould be fine too then...
