Dynamic dampers in stock exhaust system
What are the two dynamic dampers for in the stock exhaust system?
I came across them in a drawing of the stock exhaust system located in the 2009 370Z service manual. |

They are there to counteract any resonance the stock pipes would cause without them.

The dampers you are talking about are designed to stop the pipes they are attached to from resonating at certain RPMs... they effectively change the weight of the piping and thus change the resonance frequency...

Totally different exhaust design... if it doesn't have them it doesn't need them.

I can't tell how they function from looking at the service manual diagram. I thought they were some kind of device that actually was inserted into the exhaust pipe and had a controlling device external to the pipes. Thanks for the info. though! |

Thanks for the picture Steve.
It looks like it's just a hunk of metal attached with a bracket. What's that little shaft looking thingy that I see in the picture that's welded to the weight & then connects to the bracket for? |
