Some folks tend to think so. It sounds different inside the car for sure, but the actual exhaust note doesn't change (to my ears)

I emailed berk months ago, never heard back...they must not be too up on their emails...I wanted to know if there was a difference in the muffler section between the round and oval tips, I would purchase a muffler section with the round tips if it was close in price to buying the round tips and having them welded on...I REALLY want to change the tips, but I got the exhaust used, and could not pass it up, love the sound, love the round tips, my exhaust looks too stock with the oval tips. I had to do some tweaking to mine.

I actually asked them a similar question a while ago. The muffler tips are the only difference. Everything else is the same.
It would cost $400 + shipping for a new muffler section. His rationalization was that the muffler section is where all the expensive components of the exhaust are which I can believe, but holy cow! You can get a good shop to cut and weld new tips on for under $50 and you can choose whatever tips you want at that point. That is the route I was going to take but aesthetics are on the back burner for now

Biggest gains come from hi-flow cats, followed by intakes and CBEs.

So, I just got off of the phone with Bryan @ Berk (he's their tech) and he explained that this is something that happens on all Z's with the welded tips. Sometimes it's the passenger-side, sometimes it's the driver-side. He said that we could take my exhaust and put it onto the one they have in the shop and it could show the passenger-side sticking out more.
He requested I send a copy of my purchase receipt and as long as it was purchased in the past year he'll send me some spacers to put on the passenger side. There's no way to get it to be flush with the bumper, but at least the tips will be even. I asked about bending the hangers and he said, "Bending hangers is more for up, down, left, and right movement." All in all, I'm pleased with the sound and performance, but not pleased with the fact that it's going to look ricer-ish with the tips extending out from the bumper. Not sure how long it's going to last with me having to look at it each day like this. |

I just have this image in my mind that it's really far out (comparatively, it is right now) and my mind is exaggerating it a bit trying to imagine it. |

It is an optical illusion as I have measured them, and they are the same. I even got a hold of Berk when I bought them and this is what they said when I asked about how far they should stick out past the bumper, "Tip length should be about a fingers/thumb width. If you have one of our older systems they are about 2 fingers width past the bumper". This was from Bryan @ Berk.
