Q. I just got HKS HI-Power exhaust on my 370Z
Hi.
I just installed HKS HI-Power exhaust on my 370Z (manual base model) but the mechanic who installed exhaust on my Z said that he had to took out the heat shield which is located near my rear wheel & round end of my exhaust (the part that FI had carbon fiber) because that end of exhaust part doest fit because of that heat shield thing. Its a black aluminium or metal cover that covers some kinda hose or pipe that can melt by some heat damage. That mechanic guy said it might be okay but hes not sure. So that the mechanic guy said I should find custom heat shield on aftermarket but I never heard that other ppl who installed HKS exhaust on their 370Z had to took out some kinda heat shield.. Is there anyone who installed HKS exhaust on their 370z? if so, do you have same problem as me? did u took the heat shield from your Z either? and where can I find custom heat shield for my Z... I'm kinda confusing.. I could get picture of that heat shield which took out from my car.. I really need help. Please answer my questions.. Thanks. |

this is normal, most of the time heat wrap is used around the exposed hoses.

Yup, it's mentioned in the instruction manual. However, my idiot instalerl decided to ignore the manual and almost dented my left canister . I took it off the moment I found out.
Identify this part - rear Emission canister shield?

Thanks for your answers~! I didnt know that thing must removed for install the exhaust.. but the thing is.. that mechanic who installed exhaust on my Z didnt coverd the hoses with heat wrap.. can I just buy some heat wrap and cover the hoses? I'm think to lift the right rear side with using lifter when I use when I got a flat tire.. can I just lift the rear side and wrap those hoses by my self? even though I already installed HKS exhaust? and where can I buy those heat wraps?...

I dont see any reason to do that the exhaust is not THAT hot to melt the wires
Specialy if it not close to engine Im doing great with my setups and my car has over 20k miles now

heat shields helps but IMO i dont really care, my STI had no any kind of heat shielding thing and it was just fine (my friend in STI,EVO doin perfectly fine without the shield, and their car well over 60k miles)
if you had chance to lift up the car(when the engine is hot as F***) and touch the exhaust, its not that hot after the y pipe section, i do not think thats hot enough to effect on any other wires or something, because it cant even burn my hand(well i had thin fabric gloves to keep my hands clean but thats it)

I have a 2013 370z and I just purchased this exact exhaust. I called Hks performance and the representative said that it would fit properly with removal of the emission canister shield. A different site that I was looking into said tha t the part wouldn't fit on my car at all. Hks USA said it is good from 2008-present and thmotorsports said that it wouldn't fit at all

It will fit. Just remove the canister shield.
I bought my HKS exhaust from THMotorsports as well but then swapped it out 6 months later for fast intentions

I've had my HKS Hi-Power installed, no emissions heat shield, for 18k miles, and it runs great, no melting or discoloration in that area at all.
